LES PAUL JOINS LITTLE KIDS ROCK AS HONORARY BOARD
MEMBER
Electric Guitar Pioneer and Father of Modern Recording
Supports Music Education
July 18th, 2003 Nashville, TN (NAMM SUMMER SESSION)
- Little Kids Rock (LKR), an innovative non-profit
music program that provides free instruments and
instruction to children, is pleased to announce that
legendary jazz guitarist, inventor and recording
pioneer Les Paul has joined the LKR Board of Directors
as an Honorary Member.
Mr. Paul is as well known for his contributions to the
history of rock and roll as for his world-class
musicianship. He invented the solid-body electric
guitar and perfected the first multi-track recording
machine. He was also an innovator of sound-on-sound
recording, overdubbing, reverb effects and
multi-tracking. In 1977 he shared a Grammy Award with
Chet Atkins for the album Chester and Lester.
Adding Les Pauls name to our Honorary Board of
Directors is particularly meaningful for Little Kids
Rock due to the significant role he has played in the
history of rock and roll, said Little Kids Rock
Executive Director and founder David Wish. Since
were exposing kids to studio recording and playing
the electric guitar I can think of no better way of
honoring the past while looking to the future than by
introducing our kids to this musical giant.
Les Paul joins a distinguished marquee of musical
luminaries on the Little Kids Rock Honorary Board,
including B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt and Paul Simon.
Before his death, the late John Lee Hooker served as
the first Little Kids Rock Honorary Board Member.
LKR students learn to perform, compose and record
their own music from a variety of genres including
pop, rock, funk, blues, rap and hip-hop. In addition
to releasing four full-length CDs the kids of Little
Kids Rock have also recorded three music videos
featuring student written originals. To date the
Little Kids Rock program has served more than 2000
students in California, New York and New Jersey.
Supporters of the program include B.B. King, Bonnie
Raitt, Carlos Santana, the Grateful Deads Bob Weir,
String Cheese Incident and the late blues legend, John
Lee Hooker.
