Subject: I'm hearing allot of chatter about opening the 9" tire class to anything on 9" tires. Here is my 2 cents on this subject, the DFW Outlaw Class was created for those that could not hang with the King of the Hill cars. Life was good until the King of the Hill cars starting running the DFW Outlaw Class. I heard loads of pissing & moaning over that and the rules. If you open up the 9" class then the exact same thing will happen to it. If it is left as is, then the boys that do not have unlimited funds will remain in and have a class to call their own. I strongly feel like it will grow if the rules are left alone. This class has had numerous winners the past two years and no one person has dominated it unlike other classes. When 5.5 to 6.5 cars can compete, go several rounds and possibly have a chance of winning then it will grow. I'll climb off my soapbox now and wait for the sh*t to hit the fan.

Well who enforces the rules of the class. I have't seen anybody have to pop there hood in a while also the scales have been broke for a while now also. Before they start a new class they need to control the one they already have. (NT) -- 9 inch class, 19:49:35 11/25/07 Sun The scales belong to the track and therefore a little out of our control. However, it has been brought to their attention. As for who enforces the rules, great question. I would think that would be Kelly since he started this class and went to Harry for permission to run it at Redline. If you have a specific complaint about another car then my suggestion is it should be made at the track at the time of that particular race. So that would mean they had to be cheating when the scales worked and they were looking under the hoods. As for the weight issue I do know that many have had to add additional weights to their car to make the weight limit. Now, with that said if you knew for a fact there would not be any scales that night you have the choice not to add your extra 100 or 200 pounds to the car. Is that an advantage? I guess it could be in a close race but, I would not bet on it. The rules state a certain weight therefore, the track should provide the proper scales so all can adhere by. I personally would like to think that all others run as we do, straight up, honest guys that can only feel good about a fair and honest win. I bought an engine from racingjunk and I was told the heads were 23 degree but a buddy says they are 18 degree. The problem is that all numbers were ground off except for a few hand stenciled in the front that Brodix say mean nothing to them.

If I'm not mistaken, most all 18 degree heads the intake ports are evenly seperated and not siamesed like the 23 degree heads. I do believe Dart now makes an 18* headed siamese head though. Or just measure with a protractor at the valve stem. There are some raised runner 23 degree heads out there, so look really close. If you have another SBC head around look at the port hieght compared to the deck. An 18 degree will be higher off the deck. Does it have an shaft rocker system ? Also a good indicator. Measure the off-set on both, this will give you an idea of valve placement. Do you know the brand? Brodix, G.M., Dart ? Going to have to be a detective here and track it down. (NT) -- Gravy, 11:03:11 11/25/07 Sun I was told that they are 23 degree Brodix but you have to assume that if he is wrong about the 23 degree part then he could be wrong with the brand as well. What should I measure as far as valve angle and offset? Hey Kelly, I will be there to run the show on Saturday. For all you 9" haters out there just know that this class is not the fastest, some even call it lame but, I can assure you it is the most fun we have ever had.
