I think Frank was operating from what he knew, perhaps his own experiences. Now he realizes that that approach has failed and he has no alternative. The dynamics in his home have changed, his son is unrecognizable, his wife is challenging him, it's like he's stepped into foreign world. He and Denise have to have a serious discussion. Change is tough and he might have to be dragged into the 20th century. I guess that the discussion he had with that father who had lost his son might have opened his eyes. Jeremy �isn�t the son he wanted�, ie he doesn�t act the way his father expects him to and he even does despicable things, but maybe there is more to the story� I don�t know, but seeing Frank in Jeremy�s room, after Denise put back all his stuff, reading the card which was so impersonal (�the winters are long and hard at West Point.
