We gave away a Wii system, about 10 iPods, shining star animals, Kathy VanLeland and real coach purses. The prize tables had hundreds, hundreds of gifts and nice brand name things.

We feel strongly that everyone go home feeling good about themselves, that everyone get recognized for getting up on stage and performing and doing their best.

I think after 12 years, the numnbers and the level of competition from California to Maine (25 states) speaks for itself.

Thanks

North East Star is a pageant held in Calais, its a one time pageant, no moving on. NES (Natural, Simple, & Elegant) has prelim pageants all over the country. There is a New England pageant, as well as a tri-state (ME, NH, and VT) held, from the prelims you can go to the National NES pageant. That was held in CT Nov. 2-4 2007. Northeast star and NES have totally different directors, and offer different events. My dd has done both Northeast star and NES.

extreme to the other. We need to find the happy medium!

Hello, my daughter Natalie has done both of these systems. NES (Naturally Simple & Elegant) We both really enjoyed the prelim here in Maine in June, and had a great time in CT at Nationals. Natalie does not have the experience that some of the girls do, so I was unsure about nationals. I am glad we went, she had a blast and already asked to go again. Miss Tammy and her staff go above and beyond to make sure every one has a great time and all contestants go away feeling like royality. Natalie is not in the picture above, she had to use the "potty" (she is 4) and missed the group photo :( But when I get crowning photos back I am going to have a banner made and will post it.
Natalie did Northeast Star this past summer. There was a few things that happened that was not the directors/staff fault, one being the weather, the pageant was held at a school. It was one of the hottest days we had. Another issue was with the judges. I am not sure what happened, but at least one, maybe 2 did not show, so replacements were made. I did not like the fact that scores were kept private. Contestants were not even allowed to see them after awards, so any comments the judges made were never seen by contestants. I know different day, different winners etc. but there were some very strange winners both in the beauty part, as well as talent. I guess the last thing I fine strange is that they added a new rule, that NO girl/lady who is currently holding any kind of title on the day of their pagenat can compete. My daughter only does a handful of pageants a year, and we were looking forward to this one, BUT, since she holds a NES National Title for a pageant that did not even take place here in Maine, she can not be a contestant this year at Northeast Star. I will say the director was very nice and helped a lot with all my questions. There were 2 parades they invited Natalie to be a part of too.
For what its worth, we have enjoyed both systems, but since Northeast Star has added a silly rule (at least to me) we will not be attending that pageant, but look forward to attending a NES prelim in 2008! If anyone has questions email me! ~Sasha

I have never heard of a pageant telling girls that they cannot hold another title in order to enter. This is VERY discriminating. My brother in law is a lawyer and I will run this by him. I have heard of girls who enter much larger pageants and are unable to enter other pageants during their reign because of the commitments involved with their title as well as the representation necessary of their title. This seems strange to me and very unfair.

your application until after the pageant is over (or after your year is over if you win the title). But this is for pageants such as Maine Blueberry Queen where there is a big commitment and a lot of promotional events to attend. For a little pageant like NES, it doesn't make sense. Who cares if Little Miss NES Talent can't be in the hometown fair parade because she's competing somewhere else? Only the directors who want to promote their dance school!

I have been in pageants on and off for almost 20 years as I started around 8... You need to take what you hear on these boards as a grain of salt... Everyone has their opinions and thoughts... I have come across systems I have hated while others liked them... Just like different day different judges, it's all within the person... You have to find a pageant that is right for you. NES is right for us, that is WHY I showed intrest in directing.. My daughter did okay at NES, one big win at Elegance in 06, Beauty at NES in 2006, and Princess for Americas Sweetheart in 07, and she is Miss Elegance Queen of Queens for 2007, she's never taken a grand or anything, but that doesn't matter to us, what matters is we have met the most amazing people who are now my lifelong friends as well as Ava... When the national director runs up to your child (who's hostessing not competing LOL) and hugs her and kisses her, that means a lot, that shows Tammy genuinly has love for her queens.. That I just can't put a price on, and Ava loves her back as well as everyone there. Bottom line, we always leave feeling special :-)
NOW- as far as these boards go, don't always listen to what you read, you do not know who is behind that screen possible pretending to be someone else, we learned this a while back... You just cannot always believe what is posted b/c you don't know who or where it is coming from.
Pageants should be fun and healthy for us and our children, and I, Tammy, and the other directors really do promote this... Please do not buy into any negativity you see on these boards b/c 10/1 it isn't true.
I have AWESOME plans for our Maine VT NH tri-state come spring, and I invite everyone to come on board, you won't be disappointed... I have yet to announce the date yet as I need to finalize a few things, however it will be a pageant not to be missed, and I strongly encourage everyone to go to nationals... This year was filled with such kindness, girls who didn't even know each other helping each other, THAT is what pageants are about, THAT is what Tammy and her staff are trying to bring back and it was a success!! I just ask, please if you have any questions, concerns, or comments, about the upcoming tri-state pageant please email me at NESPAGEANTSVTNH@YAHOO.COM or LiLJeni79@aol.com as yahoo can get funny sometime LOL!! We will be usuing judges who do not know anyone, so it's fair game, and EVERYONE will be reconized for their hardwork on stage.
One last thing!! Congrats Natalie, Cara, and Asha, boy have you girls come a long way since I first judged you last June.. Corrie-Marie you were gorgeous as always, congrats to you, you are an amazing role model for all Maine pageant girls!!

Keep up with what is going on by joining myspace :-) Visit myspace.com/nes_vt_nh_state_pageants

Remember in any activity you will see or hear things that may be harsh, just let it roll off you back and most importantly just stay out of it :-) My father was president for pop warner and my mother was a competitive cheering coach, it happens there too, best thing is to ignore it :-)

Pageant Hugs((((()))))))
Love Jennie
