Some suggestions:

Why not let contestants know their scores? Especially since it was said there were so many ties that had to be broken.

Please have participation trophies or small dollar store gifts for all contestants next year. It is hard to explain to a pre-schooler why she didn't win anything, and these little things help a lot.

Don't bring contestants back on stage for awards until everything is tallied and ready to be announced. If you don't have entertainment, just have an intermission so the girls don't have to stand (sit! run around!) on stage for a half hour or more.

Let the audience know what the scoring system is. (Remind people that they don't get to see the interviews!)

Please let us know which fund-raiser is getting the profits from the pageant. It is great when pageants are able to give back to the community.

$20 per contestant x 40 contestants = $800
assuming each contestant brought their parents and admission is $5 (not sure what it was):
80 audience members x $5 admission charge = $400

$1200? Nothing for each contestant, only a very small trophy for the runners ups, a very small tiara, and a sash (at least that's what I see in the pics), then a tiara, sash, and large trophy for queens, with only a $50 cash prize?

Doesn't add up!

Why give the rest to a charity? Sounds sketchy to me.

Like the charity idea

What is the big deal? I like the idea of the extra money being donated to charity. I've been to pageants that cost ALOT more than $20, and no money was donated at all, so you know it went into the pocket of the director. Leave this poor pageant alone, and move onto something more pleasant...

I give alot of credit to Jill and Alicia. I dont think it is easy to run a pageant. This was thier first year doing it and I am sure that with any first time pageant, there is going to be things that they will learn and hopefully improve on next year. So thank-you Jill and Alicia for bringing a "new" pageant into Maine!

I think they did a good job. It isn't easy organizing something like that. And as for costs, did anyone think of gym rentals and so forth? They do have to pay for that too you know. Sad part is, you had one particular family that was upset that their child or children didn't win like they felt they should (everyone gets disappointed when theirs does not win), and so therefore this is where the negativity is coming from. Part of being a pageant competitor is to take your losses along with your wins. You aren't going to win everything. So teaching young girls and women to be graceful no matter what the outcome is a must. As for the talent winners, it went how I would have picked them. And as for beauty, there was one girl in the Jr group that I thought would place but didn't as well as there was one girl in the oldest group that I thought for sure would place in beauty but didn't. And believe me, I've had a great deal of experience in both talent and beauty in pageants to base my opinion on. I say it's time to move on from this discussion, and hopefully the next Maine pageant will have a better show of sportsmanship. Sportsmanship is a very important part of pageants.
