We can all agree that Emiri is the first black Miss Japan (thanks to a sunbed in a tanning salon in downtown Miami) and hopefully the last! Before the kimono fuss & the skin color issue, Inés had earlier tried to change Emiri's lovely Japanese name to Emily (a typical western name). Luckily that was unsuccessful due to loud protests from the proud public! JAPAN & her citizens are extremely grateful to her for her huge contributions & improvements to Japanese pageantry, but she must respect & accept certain sentiments & values of our culture that we hold dear! E.g. the perception of a beautiful Japanese woman will always be pure & white! Thus, the general public will never appreciate or tolerate a tanned, bronzed, colored or tinted Miss JAPAN!
