Subject: Deaf model disqualified from Bb. Pilipinas 2015

Deaf model Christine Balaguer could have been contestant number 5 in the upcoming Bb. Pilipinas 2015 had she not been disqualified.

On her Facebook Page, the aspiring beauty queen posted:

It’s my big dream to be the first deaf candidate to win Bb. Pilipinas !

Being born deaf is not the end of the world. Its a challenge but also an opportunity. An opportunity to be able to set a positive example for others that despite being deaf they can still achieve their dreams and contribute to society in a meaningful manner. And be successful !

Life as a deaf can be hard sometimes but all hardship can be overcome by working hard, never giving up and always believing in yourself.

Being deaf is not an excuse for giving up in life or making mistakes in life.

I want to inspire other handicapped people and encourage them to take life in their own hands and always move forward no matter what.

IM VERY SORRY ABOUT THE BPCI MAKE ME RESIGN SO IM VERY DEPRESS EVEN I PRAY TO THE GOD!

Balaguer reportedly has already been replaced as contestant number 5 by a 25-year-old registered nurse Cannielle Faith Santos,
from Marilao, Bulacan.

There have been a number of disqualifications at Bb. Pilipinas in pageants past with reasons ranging from citizenship, residency, contract conflicts and ‘moral’ issues. It is safe to assume that Balaguer’s disqualification is not due to citizenship and residency as she is was born and raised in the Philippines.

Christine Balaguer has been working as a model for many years. Therefore, we can speculate that the reason is any of the latter two. Did she pose for any revealing pictorial?

The Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. has not yet issued an official statement regarding the idisqualification of Balaguer.

Subject: FILIPINO FASHION DESIGNERS TO BOYCOTT ALL FUTURE MISS PHILIPPINES PAGEANTS

JANUARY 23, 2015
ADOBOCHRON

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – The Association of Filipino Fashion Designers (AFFD) has announced that its members will boycott all future pageants of the Bb. Pilipinas Charities, franchise holder of Miss Philippines Universe and Miss Philippines International.

The boycott stemmed from what the designers are calling a ‘national disgrace’ following the appearance of Miss Philippines Mary Jean Lastimosa in the National Costume segment of the Miss Universe Pageant in Doral, Florida.

Lastimosa wore a butterfly sleeve gown tattered with red, yellow and purple artificial flowers and a headdress with more of the same. It was designed by Alfredo Barraza of Colombia. Many critics described the gown as a towering wedding cake and a fruity meringue pie filling.

The AFFD accused Barraza of sabotaging the chances of Lastimosa and other past Miss Philippines contestants in winning the pageant crown. It also demanded that the Bb. Pilipinas Charities stop using Barraza and other non-Filipino designers from designing the official wardrobe of Filiipina beauty queens. “We have so many top and talented local designers and yet we keep on having foreigners design the gowns of our beauty queens,” AFFD said in a statement.

Stella Marquez Araneta, founder and head of the Charities could not be immediately reached for comment on the announced boycott.

If the boycott is not resolved, future Miss Philippines contestants may have to source their pageant gowns from local bargain clothing retail stores in Divisoria, a famous flea market district in Manila.

First of all, congratulations to MJ Lastimosa for making the Top 10. You made the Philippines proud. Looking forward to her return to the Philippines.

Now here's what I think happened that prevented her to go to the Top 5:

It was written in the stars from the get go that a Latina would win. The location and the panel of judges (not as diverse) made it obvious. That white gown. Even though she wore it well and even though Barrazza did some alternations/fixes, it still was not up to par. She really should have worn red as that was her color. Even a psychic mentioned that she would place high if she wore red.

MJ's smile really brightened the stage. But, in my opinion, and this is just my opinion, it was a tad too wide. Is this what you call veneers? Nevertheless, it was ok.

The costume was AWFUL! Seriously, it did look like a birthday cake or a bunch of flowers thrown together. It was tacky and something a 10 year old girl would wear for Halloween.

I really hope Binibining Pilipinas allows our girls to wear a Filipino inspired costume and gown. It's just a travesty that someone in Colombia does it. Is there a way Stella Marquez can give leeway on this?

I'm just proud Philippines made it to the semis five years in a row. Isn't this a streak for us?

CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN MJ YOU MADE US PROUD!!!

Binibini #5 Christine Ramos Balaguer

What was the real reason?
1) Did she back out?
2) Was she disqualified for a valid reason?
3) Was she asked to resign?
4) Was she removed due to her being deaf?

It could be one of the above. What do you think?
