Author: LaPetite, Pre-teen, & Teen International Pageant was held Saturday. [ Edit | View ] |
Date Posted: 12:39:12 07/28/08 Mon The 21st Annual LaPetite, Pre-teen, and Teen International Pageant was held on Saturday in Calais. Girls from age 4-16 from both Maine and New Brunswick competed. From beginning to end, it was a wonderful experience for the girls, and the show was great! This year, all funds raised from the pageant were donated to Hospice. Pageant Director Barbara Lara, who has been teaching dance for more than 40 years, choreographed two opening production numbers: one for the LaPetite contestants, who were adorable, and the second for the Pre-teens and Teens, who were looking cool! All of the girls did a great job, and those of us in the audience could tell they were having fun! Contestants were judged on interview earlier in the day. The evening competition included casual wear modeling, formal wear, and for the pre-teens and teens, an on-stage question. For the first time at this pageant, contestants had the option of competing in talent. While waiting for the scores to be tallied, Barbara Lara and husband Jose wowed the audience with their dance skills. Barbara's granddaughter Micalah performed a cute hip-hop routine. (It should be noted that while Micalah has competed in pageants in the past, her grandmother does not feel it is appropriate for her to compete at a pageant directed by a relative.) Micalah served as an official representative for Hospice and wore a tiara which had been won by her mother, who passed away last year. We were also entertained by the amazing singing of last year's Miss Teen International Breanna Beal and the fast tapping feet of Ms Eastern Maine Talent Queen, Eryn Crowe. Both these young ladies should compete at Miss Maine America next summer. If I'm forgetting anyone, I apologize. It was a great night of pageantry and entertainment. ALL of the girls who competed should be congratulate for doing a fabulous job! Because talent was optional, it was scored by a different panel of judges than the pageant itself. The winners were: LaPetite Pageant & Talent Queens (same winners for both!) 2nd RU Myka Clark 1st RU Haley Smith Miss LaPetite International Micalah Farrington Pre-teen Talent 2nd RU Sarah Mullen 1st RU Hannah Sivret Pre-teen Talent Queen Marina Farrington Pre-teen Pageant 2nd RU Sarah Mullen 1st RU Hannah Sivret Miss Pre-teen International Aveena Viscardo (SP?) Teen Talent 1st RU Ashley Lord Teen Talent Queen Kristen Paul Teen Pageant 2nd RU Jessica Murray 1st RU Sarah Bailey Miss Teen International Ashley Melhieser CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE QUEENS, RUNNERS-UP, AND EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED! It was a great pageant for a wonderful cause. Enjoy the rest of the International Homecoming Festival! [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

I attend the parade and pageant each year, and was excited and surprised to see her in the parade, then as a judge at the Maine Potato Queen Scholarship Pageant. It is wonderful that a State Queen made the trip up to the County, and I just want to say Thank you to Jamie for including the Potato Blossom Festival as one of the many events you will be involved with as Mrs. Maine America.
