That's a great question! I have always thought about that since sometimes, in my daily classes I get myself trying to introduce some grammar topics discoursevely and it is sometimes almost impossible. I mean, teaching comparative for instance, seems to be easy to contextualize and make students generate the rules and immediately use them confortably.Should it be because of the similarity of the languages? On the other hand, teaching Present Perfect tense seems to be impossible to make the students generate the rules, form the tense and use it as soon as they are presented to it. Should it be because of the non correlation to any verb tense in portuguese?
I have always thought about grammar as a "tool" to help people to communicate in a more adequated way, avoiding misanderstandings and interrupting the communicative process. I would never try to stick a nail with a screwdriver but with a hammer.....
