In reply to: 's message, "Following the rules" on 17:54:50 12/01/13 Sun

Every local miss pageant WILL be allowed to compete with 3 this year. Tammy is not a special favor from the board. She is just the FIRST director to benefit from this. The ONLY reason she is getting bashed is because MAO took their time answering MMBOD for something that the directors have been asking for FOR A LONG TIME. Bravo that the answer has FINALLY came!!! And Amanda, don't get me started! This system is about supporting our girls and each other. By signing your name, you are just starting trouble. Tammy Wells is a quality director. She follows the rules. I, personally, am excited to see if this helps us get the titles we need this year! We already have some AMAZING young women who have won titles this year, and I am excited to see who rounds out our contestant list in the spring. Lots of great newcomers becoming involved. This is starting to shape up to be a great year in Vicksburg!

Following the rules means everyone has the same rules. That is not the case this year. I feel bad for the directors who didn't get to use the '3' rule....even though it is explicitly against MAO rules....

They wonder why girls and directors don't like the system? They need to take a good, long look in the mirror. Their unfair practices and double standards are biting them Iin the ass. Sorry I'm not sorry.

I totally agree. I really don't dislike Tammy although I do question some of the things she gets away with (bad mouthing other directors to try and secure contestants). I guess since she stepped up and took the Grenada and Vicksburg titles the board owes her. Nevertheless it sends the wrong message to those directors who do follow the rules.

Just for the record, I understand that there was discussion last summer about allowing 3 contestants to be enough to make a crown. The original answer was that there still had to be 4. Now apparently they have allowed the change to 3. By the way, the rule was three up until a few years ago when it was changed to 4. MOST IMPORTANTLY, everyone should know that there has only been ONE pageant which has not made so far this year. Miss Tombigbee Valley, which was the new title offered along with Miss Amory, was not awarded due to lack of numbers, BUT, there were only 5 young ladies who competed that night, so there were not even enough for the "3 per crown" rule. My point is this....there have been no pageants or directors who have been treated unfairly this year by Tammy Wells being allowed to make 3 crowns with 3 girls. I am so glad that she was allowed to crown three title holders, and I trust that no pageant will be denied a crown for the rest of this preliminary season due to the lack of 4 contestants.

Ask any local director who has been around more than a decade and you'll find out... They used to have contestants beating their doors down. Now the directors have to BEAT the bushes for contestants...while other states have no trouble securing contestants.

And...for all of you barking about about how only 1 pageant hasn't made this year - you need to all remember how many pageants directors have FOLDED this year alone. In case you can't remember, let me help you...the number of titles stands at 7+ (not counting Tombigbee) and that's just THIS YEAR alone. We've seen similar numbers the past few years. That's one reason people are so upset. Instead of addressing the real issues within the Miss MS organization, they just change the rules to suit their whims and then blame the local directors when they don't like the double standards.

And the MMBOD wonders why people talk about how they've lost the trust & integrity which was formerly synonymous with the pageant? Really? it doesn't take a genius.

Got an email this morning about this issue. It stated..
The Miss America Pageant made an exception for the pageant in Vicksburg to allow them to compete with three per title. They have NOT officially changed the rule for all states. Just the Miss Mississippi office called and asked for a change in the rules.
The only reason why I was even involved in this is because I had a lot of calls during and after the pageant Saturday night. I don't even live In Vickaburg anymore. I really don't care what they do anymore with the pageant because like I said before I know more than what I should now. All I can say is good luck to all the girls that continue to compete and try to befriend the people on the board of directors.

Amanda,

I'm sure the local directors in other states would love to have the benefit of this information. PLEASE post this on the Pageant Guru Message Board!! The people who put in the time, money, and effort deserve to know what the MAO is doing for Sam Haskell's home state.

Signed,
concerned former LD

You people should be ashamed. You are really despicable. It is a pageant. THANK GOODNESS you aren't involved anymore.

WE are not ashamed for standing up for the right...the rules...and the integrity of the entire organization. You can try to make us out to be "bullies" all day long, but no one believes that for a hot second.

What is genuinely most perplexing to me is why you are taking up for the rule-breaking and rule-breakers and trying to point the finger at the rest of us!?!?!? You're delusional.

Amanda,
Before you go bashing Mrs. Wells maybe you should reevaluate yourself. I have had many girls come to me and tell me how you were NEVER there for them as a director, friend or mentor. Before you go bashing Mrs. Wells for WANTING more girls to live out their dream to go to miss ms maybe you should understand something: If you did nothing but give someone a title and leave them you WERE NOT A DIRECTOR, my friend you were merely a stranger. Mrs. Tammy loves her girls through and through and would go above and beyond for any of them INCLUDING some of yours who had to contact her when YOU left them to hang out and dry in the cold. You should be ashamed of yourself to even mention her name in a foul manner when you were, for a lack of a better word, pathetic as a director. And for you to sign your name to such a disgraceful post repulses me and gives me even more reason to think the way that everyone else thinks about you. I hope you have a great day and please never get back on this board again unless you have POSITIVE things to say about the girls OR the directors. Goodnight

I am pretty sure I know who this is. But first off, nowhere on this board am I bashing Tammy. I only mention her name one time and that is in my original post that got everyones panties in a wad. I just said even she has to follow the rules bc it was her pageant. Second, my girls were not left out without a director. I resigned before the Miss Mississippi pageant this year but still showed my support. I talked to the board and I was told that she was taking my girls over. I drove plenty of times to Brookhaven and even drove to Lake on school nights for my girls so don't pull that with me. You believe what you wanr. This mess right here is one reason I want nothing to do wirh pageants. People like you put words in others mouths and cause more drama. If you know me so well pick your phone up tomorrow and give me a call and we and discuss this like adults not on a board!

Wow aren't you sticking your foot in your mouth? Why didn't you do that from the beginning and get to the bottom of it before starting all of this on the voy.

You have no one to blame but yourself!

Hmmm. Every local miss will be allowed to compete with three this year? We have one local left in my state, and two that are done were not allowed to compete with three girls per title, so on that statement I have to say "Liar, liar, pants on fire" and how can rules be changed in the middle of a competition year? I am a state field director and have not heard a thing from MAO on this, but have my call in to Mark to see what's going on Are they going to go back and let all the pageants that have already crowned, but may have had three a possibility crown another girl? Cause if they are, (and they'd better) I've got several girls to crown. Why don't people like this? My reasoning is that it won't belong and you'll have it down to two per title, and then one per title, and then we'll be like "the other" pageant system where all you have to do is pay your fee, have a sash made and you're in and no locals are necessary. The weeding out process has to start somewhere. Otherwise, it waters down the program in not a good way. I don't know Ms. Wells, so I don't know if she's a quality director or not. I'll wait and see if she is really following the rules, old or new before I make my decision.
