Let me proceed first by saying that I am not connected to Miss Mississippi in any way nor do I typically comment on feeds such as this. Someone showed me this post because I know Molly May and they were concerned just as I am. It's extremely difficult to know who/what to trust these days, especially if you are getting your information from an anonymous message board. People tend to be very brave hiding behind this "shield" if you will. I guess I have now become one of those people but with good intentions and in order to support what the original person posted. I felt led to comment because although I am not perfect myself, I try to maintain my integrity and I am very concerned about the future of our society/culture and extremely concerned about our great state of Mississippi being represented well. It's no secret how our state has a bad reputation concerning some issues but we have so many positive things to offer.
Molly May is beautiful, talented and very intelligent. This combination of attributes can be positive or negative. Unfortunately, Molly has developed a manipulative personality and only shows compassion for those she feels may benefit her in some way. I've know Molly for a while now and have witnessed her destructive behavior. First impressions with Molly are almost always very positive. She is full of energy, very polite and just a joy to be around... until things don't go exactly how she wants them to go. I mean, who wouldn't be like that in a perfect world? Too bad this world isn't perfect. (I digress) Character means so much. How you act when others are not around, how you respond to pressure and what kind of decisions you make are all qualities that add to someone's character. This is where Molly struggles. One reader responded with "The world has much more to worry about." and "how girls act outside of the pageant has never really mattered too much." Really? Honestly? You mean to tell me that a person's character DOES NOT MATTER to this amazing organization or to our society? Only if we ALLOW this lack of regard for others will it continue to take place. When this pageant board appoints a representative, I would strongly hope that this young lady would have high morals, a strong character and be able to perform her duties and responsibilities no matter what kind of day she may be having. This is a major problem if what the reader says is true about how girls act not mattering. Are we to ignore who the person truly is just because she may be aesthetically pleasing to the eye and just happens to be crazy talented as well? What message are we sending our young ladies, our children and God? This has nothing to do with the "ICC bubble" but it has everything to do with character. If Molly treats classmates and faculty at ICC in a negative manner, what will keep her from treating others the same?
The response also mentioned the post being "an opinion on a young woman's behavior through your point of view", well I'm posting to say that what the original post stated was spot on for the most part. (not sure about the homecoming title being taken away) The behavior they referenced is true and goes beyond ICC. My intentions are not to attack anyone because young people make mistakes. We all make mistakes. THESE ARE NO LONGER MISTAKES! When they happen over and over again to the point where finally people respond to them like "the entire fine arts department at ICC" did, something is amiss. In order to have several, individual instructors in one department come to the same conclusion over a student's behavior and character to have "kicked her out of every single activity she was involved in", one MUST show concern for who MAY represent out state. No, this is not an attack, this is stating a truism. You can not argue with the truth.
As I mentioned earlier, Molly May is beautiful, talented and is a masterful manipulator. The person who responded was correct when they said "Molly was and is going to always be a good Miss Mississippi contestant". She has what it takes. She IS the pageant material that gives the word pageant a negative connotation. Must we as a society continue to reward those who, more than likely, were born with the looks our culture celebrates as being beautiful over those individuals who make a positive difference in our communities, who practice the golden rule and are genuinely nice people? I hope not, for the sake of our future and our children and whom ever looks up to these ladies, I hope not. I also hope and pray that through life experiences those who struggle with selfish ambition will see the big picture and learn to love others above themselves. Without love we have nothing.
