Author: Kyle to Steve
Subject: Kyle,Joel,Sean,Matt,Dustin on Homecoming Court

Hey Steve- a quick note before leaving for school. Yesterday I, Joel, Matt, Dustin and Sean were informed that we had been elected to this year's 2009 High School Homecoming Court. My girlfriend, Julie was also elected to the court, and during the halftime Homecoming Football Game on Friday, Oct. 2 a King and Queen will be announced who have secretly been elected already.
Steve this is really an honor for me and Joel, and even my girlfriend. None of us or even Matt, Dustin and Sean from our football team who play on with Joel and me NEVER sought to be elected by the whole student body to the Homecoming Court.
There's some other fellow students elected on the court with us, but if you pardon me they are more in a "click group" of more popularity and I think were seeking to be selected/elected to the Court. Our small group did NOT!
Joel, I and my girlfriend were completely taken by surprise when the announcement came. I will admit I voted for my girlfriend, secretly without her knowledge and approval, who is on the cheerleading squad as she has done alot for our high school over the past four years. I think she is deserving, and she has NEVER tried to not be somebody who is swellheaded and seeks popularity, but takes pride in her school. Joel said he voted for her. She's been cheerleading, played sports and belonged to different clubs and still had time for me.
There was no ballot of names, just pieces of paper passed out and you could put on anyone's name you wanted to see elected to the Homecoming Court and to be King and Queen. The two students with the most votes will be King and Queen.
As for myself Steve, I never sought to be one of the members of the Court or King. I don't know why I'm on the Court. I only was a member of few school clubs my first year in high school, but didn't join any other years as I thought it took up to much of my time playing sports, which I will be doing now my fourth year for football, basketball and baseball. So why I was elected I'm not sure to the Court. I didn't vote for myself and I told Joel not to vote for me on the ballot.
Now there's Joel who never belonged to any clubs in school, but only wanted to play sports football, basketball and baseball. I didn't vote for him, but wanted to in a way as I thought it would be kind of neat for him, and I know Joel didn't vote for himself as he didn't want to be on any ballot at all.
Now here he gets elected to the Homecoming Court, and says he doesn't want the honor.
I talked with him 2 hrs. yesterday until I was blue in the face and told him he HAS TO BE ON THE HOMECOMING COURT because he was elected and, IF NOT FOR HIMSELF, IT'S PRIDE FOR HIS SCHOOL HE WAS SELECTED BY THE STUDENT BODY!
He told me he has a good mind to talk to the principal or whoever is in charge of the homecoming committee and tell them he won't do it.
I told him respectfully NOT TO BE STUPID and DO A THING LIKE THAT. He should be honored he was selected to serve with me, my girlfriend Julie, Matt, Dustin and Sean from our "little group" as a member on the Homecoming Court.
Steve, all of our parents are so proud of us in this unexpectant honor. It's a dream I bet every senior guy or gal in high school dreams about that could happen to them and the recognition their parents will receive with all of us on Homecoming Nite.
And Joel wants to screw things up. I told him if he doesn't want to do it for himself, at least think about his parents and DO IT FOR THEM! I know he loves his parents and they love him.
So why the reluctant on Joel's part?
I told him if he didn't do it I would pound his butt for him too.
I told him there's another good excuse. He won't have to figure out who to invite to the Homecoming dance that is to be held on Saturday night, instead of Friday so there is more time to enjoy the event and not be rushed after we play the football game Friday, as he will already have a date, one of the girls on the Court. I hope me and my girlfriend, Julie can be together, but if she gets to be Queen I will understand and have one of the other girls on the Court.
So Steve, would you care to comment on this? I can't believe Joel doesn't want to be on the Homecoming Court. I know he didn't seek the honor, none of us kids did, but Joel should realize how much he is thought of by the entire student body to elect him to Court, shouldn't he? Joel has never thought to seek to be a BIG MAN in school.
I know growing up with him, and especially in high school he wanted to be accepted as "one of the boys" with me, and he has achieved that "goal" along time ago. And especially playing in sports.
So what is his "hangup" not wanting to accept this honor and be one of the members of the Homecoming Court?
I'll repeat it again, if I have to I will pound his butt if he tries to back out between now and next Friday, Oct. 2!
Any advice?
Maybe you can talk to the little sucker and CONVINCE him to not be stupid between now and next Friday, Oct. 2? I'll keep on him, too!
