Reading these responses i was struck with how differently my parents approached discipline. They didn't believe in making repeated threats or repeated warnings. They just told us to stop (squabbling or whatever) and if we didn't comply right away the next step was a spanking. Not another request to please behave. And if we did something really bad like if I pinched my sister to talked back to my mom then there was.no warning, I would be over my mom's lap getting spanked. If it happened while in the car then if we were close to home the discipline would take place at home. But if not my mom or dad would pull into a parking lot or rest stop amd spank us in the back seat of the car. My mom actually carried a wooden spanking spoon in her purse for just such occasions. Finally he said "You're asking for it Mister", & I was pretty smug that I was safe. Finally he pulled into a rest stop & there about 20 yards away was a gaggle of picnic tables with maybe a dozen people having lunch. "Do you want your bare fanny spanked over there?" he pointed.
