Question:
I dug out my copy of Sanow's book on 1979-94 Mopar squads and in it was a chapter devoted to the woes of the Maine State Police with their 1977-78 cars.
What I am wondering about is this: were their mechanical problems unique to the 400 4V ELB single exhaust equipped Fury/Monaco cars or was it simply the luck of the draw?
The reason that I am wondering was that the 1977-78 CHP Monacos were identical aside from being equipped with the Calif spec 440 Magnum sans Lean Burn along with dual exhausts. And those units seemed to be reliable.

I think it was just crybabies up in Maine, ahyuh (NT).08:54:26 07/12/02 Fri

I remember the 78 Monacos were terribly cold blooded engines here in the winter, and the lean burn was always a tuning problem. And the fuel milage was about 8-10MPG. Had to return to HQ to fill up at about the 6 1/2 hr mark of the 8 hr shift. (NT)Grainy17:01:12 07/12/02 Fri

I think most likely it was the lean burn system and cylinder head warping.ford jockey but prefer Mopar13:37:31 07/15/02 Mon
