Elly gave Shadow a small and sympathetic look when he told her about his family. She refused to show how sorry for him she felt � after all, he wasn�t going to want any pity from her, was he? Though, she reflected, if her parents had died in the storm, she wouldn�t be sorry at all. Was that a bad thing to think? It probably was�you were supposed to love your parents, weren�t you?

She nodded to B�nederra when she was introduced, and looked back to Shadow, able to tell that Salty was greatly amused by Cara�s reaction to her father joining them. [You must know a lot about dragon-riding, then?] She asked, assuming he would. [Are you going to stand for the next clutch?]
