Author: G'rein and S'peer (a clone)
Subject: Should we be expecting X'thrall?

“How’s my favourite greenrider this evening?” S’peer crept up behind G’rein (who had left Grenith to dry after an oiling), and the younger man spun to greet him with a hug.
“Hopefully as good as his second-favourite blue-rider!”
S’peer looked at his friend in mock-horror. “Second favourite? And there was me thinking I came first in your affections…” He sighed. “…Ah, I am a poor, disillusioned soul.”
G’rein spluttered with laughter. “Disillusioned? You? Pull the other one, S’peer. It’s got bells on.”
“I am!”
“Ring-a-ding-ding! Can’t you hear them?”
G’rein darted off, the two engaging in a race to the Lower Caverns like a pair of weyrbrats. The greenrider won, and the two flopped down at table, G’rein signalling to a drudge for some klah.
As they sipped from their mugs, S’peer raised a quizzical eyebrow. “So who has replaced me?”
“My weyrmate, X’thrall. And why are you here?”
The bluerider grimaced. “Fun. Ah well. And I was transferred. So what’s X’thrall like?”
“Great.”
S’peer chuckled at his friend’s unwillingness to discuss things concerning his weyrmate. “As good as me?”
“What kind of question is that? I can’t say no, because it’s lying, but I can’t say yes, because it’ll offend you!”
“So he is better. At least our old Weyrwoman would be pleased.”
The Weyrwoman of their previous Weyr had not been best pleased at the first flight-mate of the 15-year-old G’rein had been five years his elder. She had never liked them being together, thinking that S’peer led G’rein on.
“She would. It was his first flight. Either him or a girl, Maria.”
“Oh yeah – I met her. We got on quite well, actually.”
“You trying it on with her? S’peer, I can’t believe you’d be that optimistic!”
The rider chuckled. “If she offered…maybe we can empathise.” He moved closer and ran a hand over G’rein’s back, sensually, murmuring in his ear. “Like we can…”
“S’peer…” G’rein’s tone warranted no argument as he refused to respond to the caress. “…Weyrmate!”
The other man sighed, reluctantly removing his hand. “You can’t blame me for trying. For old time’s sake.” He ran a hand down G’rein’s leg this time. “Can you?”
The greenrider rolled his eyes, removing S’peer’s hand and placing it on its owner’s own leg. He felt quite proud of himself – this was the first time he had been able to resist the allure of the bluerider. They were so very like each other that they were remarkably compatible. “I’ll tell X’thrall on you!”

((Please, Pup, do not be in any way offended by S’peer’s comments on Maria. It’s typical of him. He’s a flagrant womaniser. Or maniser. Is that a word? And yes, the clones have come…I do realise that S’peer is on two places at once. Suspend your disbelief, people!))
