You could be quite correct when you are speaking of long driving clubs. They are unique as you have to 'wait' for them at the top of the backswing and timing and technique are huge factors. After 48" some golfers will find a point of diminishing returns and that point varies on technique used.

Standard clubs - 5 iron and driver comparisons have proven to yield approx. 10-15mph difference. One clubmaking site claims 2 mph per 1/2 inch which works out approx right for my own testing between a 37.5" 5 iron and a 43.5" driver. This is basic physics and 2 mph can add 10 yards .... trencher
