A guy using big grip emailed me and said he tried Big Grip with a bent elbow. He said it increased his clubhead speed with no increase in effort.
Try this. Place the thumb of your rear hand a little on the right side of the club. Bend your lead elbow to get your hands about 6-8 inches from your rear shoulder. If you initiate the downswing by pushing back and down with your left hand while simultaneously tossing the clubhead with your right hand, two nice things will happen. First of all, your are bringing the powerful tricept muscle of your left arm into play, secondly and just as importantly this will cause you to squat down slightly and simultaneously move a little laterally towards your front side.
First try this without a ball. After I have done this about 100 times or so, I really can't tell if I am initiating the downswing with my arms or with my legs.
Toms student on the Big Grip tape should try this because when he hits his driver, it looks like a lot of his shots are going left. This move with the left thumb, which straightens out your left arm and causes you to squat should cure this.
Hope you give it a try. Remember, first without a ball. Ed L.
