Subject: Nonsustainable solution?
In reply to: 's message, "Re: Mother's mortality in Papua New Guinea-comparision with AUS & NZ" on 11:01:02 02/15/00 Tue

What you see is the result after hundreds, if not thousands of volunteers from around the world have worked in PNG.
There's a factor called 'sustainability' here that has never been addressed. So we end up being perpetually dependent on outside groups and people to help us when we should really be helping ourselves. Is it really impossible for us, who have enough money to spend on Pentagono and other fast money schemes, beer, pokies, and other silliness, to care for ourselves in terms of health?

Is our government really solving the problem if it would turn to outside groups and volunteers? Remember, we've tried this already. You see the results.

Just to challenge your mind, brata o susa. I'm not saying I know the answers here, but I certainly can see with my
own eyes what we've tried already and what hasn't worked a damn, partly because there is no sustainability.
