Not the same system, but a similar one. Get rid of the name "Opposition Party". This seems to make many who are in that party think that it is their job to make life hell for the ruling party. Get rid of the "No confidence" vote. Elect a PM for 4 years and unless he is found quilty of some injustice he is the leader and that is that. Let the voters show him and his party "No confidence" in the next election if that is the case. This will make the current opposition party spend more time doing the right things for the country in the hopes of getting elected the next time instead of spending all of their time trying to bring down the current government.

Get some new younger people in leadership and remove those who stand for the status quo, ie. "That's the way we have always done it."

And most importantly make the quality education of every child a high priority. They are the future leaders. Without everyone elegible to vote and educated enough to make good choices you will always have just a hand full of people to chose from for leadership. Education will also bring about the one thing that all modern democracys, have but PNG does not. A strong influencial middle class. It is this group that makes the industrial machinery operate and controls the bulk of the currency. PNG must be come a producing and export country. We can not keep asking for help. We are wearing out our welcome to lending countries and organizations.Everytime we borrow we give up just a little more of our souls.

The leadership of PNG must start doing their homework. Since the beginning they have taken the "We want to do it our way" attitude. They need to spend some time learning how sucessful countries operate and learn from them. Borrow some hints from European and North and South American governments and consider making some changes in how we do things.

It sure can't get much worse
