Dear Contestants, Parents, and EDs:

Do you know how much Miss Ohio offers in scholarships verses their operating costs?

Miss Ohio spent $159,166 to produce Miss Ohio 2018 and offered* $42,300 in scholarships.

Contestants: Your cut is 26%; Miss Ohio’s is 74%.

If you take into account one girl gets $10,000, your available scholarships are 20% of the budget.

Wouldn’t you like to know exactly how Miss Ohio spent that $159,166**? How much did they pay the producer? Are the entertainers being paid more than the girls win in scholarships? How much did they spend on Miss America?

EDs: Do you think you could give more scholarships/ put on a better show than the current leadership with $160K?

Parents: You are funding the program via ticket sales and entry fees. A 3 night ticket package is $116. Entry fees are $500 to state and $100 for locals. For a family of 4 to attend the pageant & Coronation Ball and pay their daughter’s entry fees, it’s over $1,200 to the Miss Ohio org. This is why they give 5 titles at the end of the year sweeps pageant. It brings in ~$3,500 after they give each a $500 scholarship and that doesn’t include any ad money they raise.

Here’s Miss Ohio’s latest IRS 990 tax form from 2018. Steven is delinquent in filing 2019 & 2020. (And I’d bet there’s a clause in their state contract requiring them to file in a timely manner.)

$58,148 is “Contributions & Grants”. Miss Ohio offered $42,300 in scholarships in 2018. *Note I say offered bc not all scholarships are claimed. The other $15,848 represents non-cash items like hotel rooms, flowers, meals and other donations to Miss Ohio.

** Expenses are not broken out on the 990 but in Schedule O, which isn’t attached to forms available online.

[> Subject: The tax returns have always been skewed. Never submitted on time or accurate. Yet they get away with it year after year. MAO is complicit in this as well as the state submits the same documentation to them every year. There are no checks and balances. The only answer is to stop having locals stop donating and stop competing until this board is done and over
