Now that the national pageant (sorry, COMPETITION) is over, do you think they'll keep Steven and company in charge? The other two groups that applied for the franchise a few years ago have all moved on. One group runs Volunteer and the other split up (and some moved out of Ohio).

What do you think will happen?

Who should run the state, if not Steven and company?

Below you will find the codes to post links and pics on Voy:

PREVIEW your post to make sure the link works or you see the picture.

If you don't, something's wrong in your code. One space, period, missing character and it won't work. *Note* There must be a space between A & href and img & src.

Also, you can make the photo bigger or smaller by changing the number after height. PREVIEW it to make sure it's the right size. Please don't post photos bigger than about 500- 550.

How to post a photo that's not online, like screen shots or personal photos:

Photos need to 'live' somewhere online so the code can direct you to the pic.

Postimages.org is free. You can drag and drop the photo into the "Choose Images" box.

It will give you 8 options for different uses. Use the second option: DIRECT LINK. Copy it in its entirety and insert in between the parentheses that say "insert photo link here".

It looks like how Miss Ohio was run this year is affecting local recruiting.

Akron/Canton had 8 contestants last time, 9 in 2019, & 10 in 2018. Great numbers for Ohio, especially for a closed local. The contestants are usually one-timers, rather than go on to compete in other locals, so new recruits have never been a problem.

But it's been 2 years and they could only recruit 4 contestants. Now that one has dropped out they made it an open, so obviously they have tapped out their local girls if they couldn't get one more.

Veterans Danielle Vivcharenko and Hayley Holt have both announced they aren't returning. I haven't heard anything about Caitlin Seifert.

I get they've probably paid a non-refundable deposit and have scholarship money but if it was easy to take a stand, they wouldn't call it leadership.

Miss Akron Canton (the next local of the season and the second member of the 2022 class to be crowned) just had to make themselves an open competition and extended their deadline. They have ALWAYS been closed, this is dreadful. This means they most likely don’t even have enough to crown ONE girl. At what point is Ohio or MAO going to step up and acknowledge what is happening? We haven’t run an actual Miss Ohio level prelim this season. The one scheduled before this had to cancel due to lack of sign ups. While Covid definitely plays a part, what happened at state with Lora has done irreparable damage to the program.

The board and Steven have gone TOO FAR this time. The worst part of it all is that everyone is acting like everything is fine and that nothing is wrong at all. They’re all ignoring the big 4H horse in the room. But it’s there, it’s real, and it’s awful. It’s hurting the girls, the locals, and the program. FIX IT. Steven and the board need to go.

Lora Current should be known as the woman that poisoned the lineage of Miss Ohio. She is an adult should take responsibility for this cheating disgrace and apologize to the class of 2020. How are we supposed to recruit women into the Ohio program when she sets the precedent for what the state titleholder should be?

Cheaters never win and while she might have a title, nobody truly respects her. She has buzz like a reality tv show, let’s see what happens next. However, the newbies don’t want to come now & many of the vets are done with it. Most of the teens that could’ve moved up have moved to different programs. Leaving us with only six girls (by my calculations/they’ve hinted at coming back) we’ve seen in prior seasons. That means there’s going to be potentially 14+ spots for rookies?

Steven and Lora are have sunk Ohio like the titanic. We can’t even RUN A PRELIM!! Lora won’t even advertise for the program on her Instagram. Not a single post about “sign up for *insert prelim here*”.. on her miss account with 11.5K followers, you’d think they’d push for that! She is seriously good for NOTHING, she’s a money funnel. That’s it.

Author:
Be willing to walk away, or Choose to be Used.
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 17:14:24 07/07/21 Wed

To the contestants, their parents, local directors, volunteers and anybody else who cares about this program:

There was a post on Guru a while back saying a group of contestants have declared they are not coming back to Ohio because they feel the pageant was rigged. I spoke with a reporter who said 9 out of the 11 local EDs are banding together to demand answers from the Miss Ohio Board of Directors. (BTW- They'll deny, deny, deny, play all nice, and try to soothe you until the scandal blows over.

I’ve seen this many times over these tumultuous last 5 years or so–– when a scandal erupts and everyone gets hopeful there will be a change in the stranglehold of leadership, both at Miss Ohio and Miss America.

Like in 2014 when Miss America revoked the Ohio franchise and fired the entire board of directors without explanation. This OH Board had been working *from the inside* for years to remove Steven Oliveri which would have occurred that year, only for the head of Miss America to hand the program right back to him. The state program lost 10? local titles, so they allowed Festival winners to compete.

Or when Sam Haskell was removed… only to be replaced by the disastrous Gretchen and Regina, who had 27,000 Change.org signatures demanding they resign. They didn’t and were sued by formers for their malfeasance. The missteps and legal costs Miss America has made has nearly bankrupted the program.

Or when 27 states stood up to Gretchen and Regina, but ***the others were too scared to lose their franchises to use their group power to force a change***. Miss America revoked the state licenses of TN, GA, PA, WV and threatened 15 others with probation. >> The MAO’s actions spurred the creation of the Miss Volunteer America pageant. <<

Or when at Miss America 2019 they had only 3 ‘celebrity’ judges with no way for them to actually score the girls- no scoresheets or electronic tabulators. And the 2RU saw on a teleprompter that she didn’t make the Top 2, but they hadn’t had the last competition yet! Miss America is shady from the top down.

Girls say they’re not coming back, then they get the itch or think with all the top girls gone that maybe they’ll have an easy win. Locals say they’ll band together, but they really like playing pageant. I do too. They’ll focus on their local program and the value of mentoring young women. So what does it really matter to them who ‘wins’ Miss Ohio, as they all go to Miss America anyway.

ALL THIS to say…

When is it REALLY enough?

When is it REALLY enough to step up, band together, and end this years-long fraud?

It’s *heartbreaking* to give up something you love especially if it’s been a big part of your life. I put the pieces together years ago and realized then, people just can’t or won’t believe a program they idealized is corrupt until they see it for themselves. You can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube now. What exactly are you holding on for? That they might not let you crown the next girl they use to bankroll the winner they pick? How would you feel crowning another young woman to go to MO knowing what you know?

You’ve got to fight for the program you want and be willing to walk away if it isn’t changed. That’s your only leverage. If a group of 10 girls from the Miss Ohio pageant have a press conference to announce they are not returning because they believe sponsorship played a role in the results, >> they will make national news. Attention will be brought! <<

It may not result in the changes that are needed in leadership , but it’s not about them. Standing up to Steven is about your standards for yourself. You’re saying, I love this program but I won’t involve myself with *anyone* who cheats ME (especially of scholarship MONEY).

You never had a shot at that $10,000, the title and opportunity of Miss Ohio you dreamed of, that you had to wait 2 years to compete for or the money and experience you get for competing in Miss America, and being Miss Ohio.

You were used to bankroll the pageant. Refuse to be used.

Why hasn't Lora's supporters explained what her exact relationship with Jeff Knedler is?

Why did a man in his mid-50's take a special interest in an 18yo girl? What's the connection? What's in it for him? Has he had other connections with other contestants in the past, as a personal sponsor?

Why would a small-town business man supposedly spend $10,000 to buy a girl an expensive couture evening gown? That's as much as the winner's scholarship!

What is the extent of Lora & Jeff's business relationship? Why was his home address used for her non-profit?

Also, who funded her People's Choice win?

Lots of defenses, but no denials or explanations. Must be something to it.

Dear Contestants, Parents, and EDs:

Do you know how much Miss Ohio offers in scholarships verses their operating costs?

Miss Ohio spent $159,166 to produce Miss Ohio 2018 and offered* $42,300 in scholarships.

Contestants: Your cut is 26%; Miss Ohio’s is 74%.

If you take into account one girl gets $10,000, your available scholarships are 20% of the budget.

Wouldn’t you like to know exactly how Miss Ohio spent that $159,166**? How much did they pay the producer? Are the entertainers being paid more than the girls win in scholarships? How much did they spend on Miss America?

EDs: Do you think you could give more scholarships/ put on a better show than the current leadership with $160K?

Parents: You are funding the program via ticket sales and entry fees. A 3 night ticket package is $116. Entry fees are $500 to state and $100 for locals. For a family of 4 to attend the pageant & Coronation Ball and pay their daughter’s entry fees, it’s over $1,200 to the Miss Ohio org. This is why they give 5 titles at the end of the year sweeps pageant. It brings in ~$3,500 after they give each a $500 scholarship and that doesn’t include any ad money they raise.

Here’s Miss Ohio’s latest IRS 990 tax form from 2018. Steven is delinquent in filing 2019 & 2020. (And I’d bet there’s a clause in their state contract requiring them to file in a timely manner.)

$58,148 is “Contributions & Grants”. Miss Ohio offered $42,300 in scholarships in 2018. *Note I say offered bc not all scholarships are claimed. The other $15,848 represents non-cash items like hotel rooms, flowers, meals and other donations to Miss Ohio.

** Expenses are not broken out on the 990 but in Schedule O, which isn’t attached to forms available online.
