Like Scott (and many others) I haven't used the 4.7kOhm resistor you mention on any of my machines.

Check this page if you want to do the "Fiddle with sense code wires" mod or for a look at a another approach to doing the VGA mod:

Though Chris Lawson's A/B only VGA mod is more a more elegant approach. I used this mod for my very first CC conversion to Mystic. This was before Chris' VGA mod web page went live.
