CD R/W: I assume something along the lines of my CD in CC? Three issues to watch out for, I think:

One is the nature of the drive mechanism; anything but slot-load will make it much harder to achieve a neat look to the front of the CC. Then watch out to align the drive's slot with the CC's slot vertically; it was only just possible with the half-height Pioneer drive I used.

Two is heat generation. The drive will be sandwiched between the horizontal chassis leaf and the analogue board's metal plate. My CD gets warm; I understand that CDR/Ws make far more heat. IMHO a very small fan might be needed.

Three is implications for HD location. I used a 2.5" SCSI from a PB, which then requires an adaptor. So sort out location before buying the new HD!

I'll leave the rest of the questions to others!
