It isn't that big of a deal. I did it many times when I was competing. The musician is exhausted and made a mistake. One time we had a fun little exchange ( He said "But I was playing it so well, are you sure you don't want to do that one instead.") and we went on with the competition.
Competitions are supposed to be a demonstration of your knowledge of Irish Dance. Knowing your music is part of that knowledge, especially at the level where you are doing a set.

This was my U9 at an overseas major. At that young age they don't know unless they've been taught what to do, feared being disrespectful. Talk about spending a ton of money for overseas majors and for that to blow it. (NT) -- OP, 20:41:29 11/14/23 Tue
