Has anyone been on the receiving end of a fli-back paddle?

My mom told me that my grandmother used to spank her and my aunt with a fli-back paddle. This didn’t sound very scary to me, in my head I was picturing those thin little paddles with the ball attached that you get at the dollar store.

I was at an antique store this weekend and saw a fli-back paddle for sale. I picked it up and was quite surprised at how heavy it was. I get it now, I can definitely see how one could have been used to give a good spanking.

According to my mom, my grandmother never spanked with her hand and exclusively used a paddle. I always wondered why my grandmother opted to only use her hand on me. I don’t know the answer but now that I’ve held one I’m very glad she didn’t use it!
