Chapter 6
The summer sun was sinking into the horizon, turning the bricks of Redwall Abbey blood red. Within the abbey gates, the feast had begun! Torches lit up the lawn, providing light for the creatures feasting at the tables. Bloodfur's horde gorged themselves with the abbey's larder, gobbling food and swigging drinks, stealing from each other. The peaceful night was filled with the ruckus of the drunken vermin.
At the front of the lawn, Rythe Bloodfur sat in the Abbot's chair, watching the festivities. A length rope was knotted around one leg of the chair and tied around the neck of Tubbo, the dormouse hostage. The Redwall servers did not dare to attempt anything with the dibbun's life at stake. The white ferret approached the warlord.
"My Lord, we are wasting time," he rasped, "all beasts will soon know we are here and come against us. We need more soldiers."
"Patience, Captain Leuko. The horde must know what they are fighting for." His eyes scanned the rowdy beasts. Then, he looked at the frowning ferret and smiled. "Worry not, Captain, we will begin recruiting in the morning. As the sun appears on the horizon, I want you to take a score of hordebeasts and scour the area for potential soldiers. You will command them to join my hordes." The fox smiled darkly, "and you know what to do if they disobey my command."
Captain Leuko bowed his head and smiled. "Yes, my Lord. The punishment for disobedience is death."
"Indeed it is. And keep your eyes open for a beast with the potential for leadership. We have been short one Captain since the death of Captain Wormgutt."
"It will be done as you say, my Lord."
"Excellent! Now relax and enjoy the festivities. War is coming."
