He was in a large circular room, completely unlit except for candles placed in wall niches. The flames cast flickering shadows soaring and dnacing ascross the walls, onto the shadowy ceiling, and playing on the features of the young man who stood tensly in the center of the room, his arms folded across his chest almost defiantly, his dark eyes flashing.
His tall form was clad in black robes and even though he was only seventeen or eighteen, there was a brooding sense of ferocity and bitterness to his face. He gazed around him in disdain, narrowing his eyes in hate as they swept across the rows of benches arranged neatly, the blackboard in front covered in symbols and scrawls, and the desk beside it.
A door suddenly opened at the front of the room and he tensed suddenly, as a tall, elderly man entered the room, carrying an armful of scrolls. Glancing quickly at the young man, the newcomer kicked the door shut behind him, and sat down at the desk, releasing the scrolls onto the polished surface. The elder man took a moment to organize the scrolls into one pile and run his hand through his white hair before turning to the young man.
"Please Seerus, have a seat." The young man remained where he was. "I'll stand." The elder man shook his head.
"As you wish Seerus, as you wish." he sighed and surveyed Seerus through keen eyes undulled by age. Seerus shifted his weight under the stare and said suddenly,"Master Vexar, I know why I'm here, so let me just apologize and go."
The older man sighed again, but more deeply this time. "Seerus, it isn't that simple, you must understand-"
"I understand it!" spat Seerus, uncrossing his arms angrily. "You've told me this a hundred times at least!"
"But it hasn't sunk in has it?" asked Vexar, leaning forwards.
"Oh it has Master Vexar, it has," snarled Seerus, his dark eyes flashing. "Unlike many people here, I'm not an idiot! I don't need to hear it again!" Glaring feircely at Vexar, Seerus strode to the door by his desk. Vexar ran a hand over his tired eyes, and wriggling his fingers despondantly, said a few soft words.
Seerus reached the door and placed a hand on the door knob. With a curse of pain, he leapt back, and gazed at his hand, then the doorknob in shock. The metal had become too hot to safely touch. Raising his hand, Seerus saw through a wave of pain that the flesh was blackened and burned. Seerus whirled on Vexar who was watching him keenly.
"Let me out!" growled Seerus.
"Or?" said Vexar, cocking an eyebrow.
"Or I'll blast the door from the wall," replied Seerus angrily.
Vexar sighed again. "That's exactly what I mean Seerus. You have power and talent, loads of both in fact, and you should; your parents were both Arch Mages. But it's your temper that gives you trouble."
"Let me out," snarled Seerus harshly. Vexar continued talking. "You're too quick to react on your first impluse, you don't take the time or effort to consider the consequences of your actions."
"This is your last warning Vexar! Let me out now!"
"for example, blasting my door. I can assure you that I will take severe action, should you choose to do it." Seerus raised his hands in the stance of summoning. "I will immediatly talk talk to the Counsil of Mages and obtain an authorization to remove your magic, until I deem you ready to recieve it back," continued Vexar, his eyes locked on his pupil.
"You wouldn't," hissed Seerus, his hands still raised.
"I would Seerus, and let me assure you, the Counsil will have no trouble agreeing to it."
