Spread Our Wings (also entitled: Upon a Time)
Upon a time, we were naive,
We hoped and then we dreamed
Of success and a perfect life,
And we'd have a happy ending.
Upon a time, we were young,
And dreaming was the key
That would bring you happiness,
And open your eyes to see.
But where did the hope go?
Wishing, where did that lead?
Death, dark, destruction, doom,
Where's the happy ending?
Souls locked away with no key;
Our wings are chained and scarred.
Promises are only debts unpaid,
And our innocence is marred.
Upon a time, seems like yesterday,
We wanted to grow up and be 'free'.
Have a perfect spouse, perfect house,
And two adorable, angel babies.
Dreams and hopes, so young and pure,
Perhaps with these, salvation lies.
And maybe dreams, wishes, and hopes,
Will let up spread our wings and fly.
