With speculations that Gabrielle Walcott might be sent or asked to go to Miss Universe. That has proven not to be true. This is indeed a very sad day for pageantry in Trinidad and Tobago. It is so embarassing that the T&T Government can not see the potential that these beautiful ladies have to promote T&T to the world. No one was even approached or there was not a hint to anyone to represent the country in the Bahamas this year. Gabrielle walcott said that even if she was ask now it will be to late for her to properly be prepared to compete at Miss Universe. She noted that T&T has had tremendous success at Miss Universe and dont want to spoil T&T's record for not being ready enough. I persoanlly think that Gabby would still do great if she was asked to go with just under three weeks until the start of the competition. But, I can understand her position. She does not want to feel rushed and by that can ruin her chances. Its is really sad that there will not be a Miss T&T at Miss Universe. My hope is that T&T will have a representative at Miss World so we can continue the success at that pageant to. I still believe that there are girls who can be chosen now and be sent to Miss Universe with just a few weeks to go and do very well. I remember Maggie walcott being chosen in a very short space of time yet still did very good at Miss Universe. There are countries still chosing their representitives right now, so there may still be time for T&T to have a good representitve sent. T&T girls know how to shine and be noticed. Even if we dont see a Miss T&T at Miss Universe this year. Lets hope that this will be the last time that there is a struggle to send someone to the international stage just because of lack of financing.
