I do not know how to respond to Anya's none placement at MU. I really thought she had a good chance. Eeven when the delegtes were being introduced. I thought Anya was definietly in. But, to my surprise no Trinidad and Tobago in the top 15. What went wrong with Anya?. I have been very supportive of Anya because she was Miss T&T. I also knew she might of been looking at this forum so I didnt want to say anything to cause her to lose focus. I wanted her to maxinmize her potential in every way with out the criticism from people. But, this is something I should of said long ago. When Anya won. I knew she was not the right choice. I really didnt see her doing great at Miss Universe. Makeda or June would of been the better choices. Anya is a wonderful person but she just did not have what it takes to become a MIss Universe. I always tried to stay positive and try to find the best qualities in her. But, deep dwon I had major doubts about her. I think PE&A got it so wrong this year. After not particiating last year to come back this year and not even make top 15?. How embarassing. I understand they wanted to show how diverse T&T is. But come on. This is beauty pageant, All the MUO cares about is beauty and who looks the best. No brains etc etc. PE&A needs to stop experimenting so much and get back to where they were going from 2004 to 2006. Anya is a very accomplished girl and I know that PE&A were looking for a very well educated accomplished girl. But, the MUO dont give a hoot about all that. They want to see beauty, beauty and more beauty. I am disappointed in Anya not placing because I wanted her to but I kind of expected it could happen she wouldnt. She just did have the Miss Univer type of beauty. Anya was also way to short. Look at all the finalist except Vietnam. All were tall especially the top 5. Anya also has a good body but her shortness makes her legs look huge. PE&A really messed things up this year BIG TIME. T&T was going great since 2003. Now, they missed last year and not even placing this year. I have never been so critical toward PE&A before but they are moaving away from where they started. I hope they realise their mistakes and fix them. Now, I dont even know about Gabby's chnaces at MW. In fact, I am not really looking forward to it. T&T track record at Miss Universe is being ruined. And PE&A needs to wake up. Well, at least gabby is prettier than Anya. Maybe she can at least make the top 15. But, that is. Truly disappointed.

was aweful as well, Again trying not to be to critical toward her I held back any negative comments. Anya did not do a good job in her presentaion performance. her walk was way off and her styling was bad. Look at Kenisha, Maggie, Danielle and Faye. They all had a good solid walk and excellent presentation in their outfits. How could PE&A digress from a stunner like Kenisha to someone mediocre like Anya?. Kenisha had a good walk that made you remember her. She posed great and was styled right. Come PE&A WAKE UP!

I can understand what you are trying to say but I totally disgree with you that we did not have the right young lady. Anya was great but her prelim SS walk was poor and her EG failed to dazzle within the first 5 seconds of her onstage. Maggie and Kenisha had really fantastic catwalk skills for the prelim so I have no idea why the heck they told Anya to walk like that. Peter should have gone with a form fitting gown for Anya. Additionally, from the semifinalist it was obvious they were intrested in the taller ladies even if they were not that pretty-period! I mean come on people-Hungary? JAPAN? SPAIN?-Anya was way better than them. Out of these 3 only Japann had a very stunning face but her body was just O.K.

For next year though, PE&A need to take a page from Osmel-5'7" is the minimum height and hopefully we don't crown anyone shorter than 5'9". How tall is Makeda O'Neil? I don't expect to see Valene at MT&TU09 so Peter and Calvin better start looking for ladies they can invite for the screening. Forget about if you find her in a mas camp modeling a costume-MUO does not care-the current MU dropped out of high school to model, had no sense that she was doing something inappropriate when at the children's orphanage (or something like that) she was paying more attention to her face in mirror hanging on the wall than to the kids and she is a bit immature. We are the only people here caught up with intelligence with beauty-a quality we should not lose but let's not forget which pageant we are sending our rep to.

I held back from saying this before but I can't help but think that one of the reasons why Anya was a favorite in Vietnam was because of the way she looked(Asian). I may be a little to critical again. But it stems from knowing that T&T coould of done better. Maybe if her presentation was better. But, lets focus now on MW. Hopefully PE&A regroup and make the right adjustments.

Trini77, you confuse me sometimes. First you say Anya was one of the best delegates yet and then you say that she did not do well in EG and SS, she didn't have great catwalk skills and that her figure is too muscular. What then was great about her. Secondly you say that PE&A should start looking for delegates and forget where the find them....since as we all saw last night Venezuela was one of the most immature and did not come across as intelligent. All this said if PE&A should not pay much attention where they 'pick up' delegates from why didn't Makeda or June go to the pageant then? Since you all agreed that they did not interview great nor had a great walk. In my opinion too many young women from T&T and other countries as well get sent to
MU and MW and they don't deserve it. A well read, accomplished, put together, intelligent woman would always be more refreshing to be around than an airhead with looks and boobs. You spoke about setting a standard and sticking to it,I strongly agree it is time to replace the standards that were present when Wendy won and before that in the olden pageant days. The Miss T&T is becoming too much of a modelling gig. Just because someone looks good in clothes does not mean she is pageant material. Its time to face that fact. Forget about trying to be shallow at least let our reps be remembered for being brilliant not form being dumb and still beating the odds.

I am really shocked at all the negativity toward Anya and the overly harsh comments. Pageant Critic, weren't you the one who said nothing about her should be changed for the finals and yet you now criticize her so harshly?

I had my problems with Anya which I always mentioned, namely her hair styling and her walk in swimsuit presentation with the weird way she just let her arms hang loosely from her body. I was also concerned about her rather muscular physique. Other than that I think Anya did a great job and was a good rep for our country. True she was short and I would have liked her to be taller but short girls have made the finals before.

Makeda or June would not have placed due to the plain fact that the competition was being held in Vietnam and Asians are known for not liking dark skinned girls (look at how beautiful Angola was omitted). After all is said and done, I think Anya did her best and she represented us well.

Next time P&A need to train the girls to walk better and please make sure they are not muscular.

Congratulations to Anya, she represented us well and from all accounts was well liked.

I have always been very supportive of Anya. if you read my other post you would understand why I didnt want to make any harsh or critical comments toward her. But, you guys did. I waited until the end of the competitiont o voice my concerns and give my opinions. I knew her faults and that she wasnt the best but I supported her to the last night. Everyone including you, Trini77 and some others had many negative commenst about Anya. But, I did not say not one bad thing conderning her until the competition was over. I stand by every thing I said and everyone knows what went wrong and what needs to be looked at and fixed.

OK Pageant Critic, you are not being entirely fair. As mentioned in my post above, those are the only criticisms I have made of Anya and I believe they are constructive criticisms, not bashing. I mentioned her hair, her walk and that she was too muscular. Those are facts as I see them and not overly negative.

I understand what you said about holding back but I think it is more beneficial to the delegates if constructive criticism is made before they compete, so that they can have a chance to review and make possible changes to their style and whatever else can be change, rather than to wait until after and then say all that you thin is wrong. I think that defeats the whole purpose. I understand you meant well by doing so but I just think it would have been fairer.

I firmly believe constructive criticism should be welcomed but I think some comments have gone over board. Anyway, you have been doing a great job here in the forum but I just thought you were a bit unfair now that MU is over and Anya did not place. I always think it is best to be frank upfront, even though the girls browse the forum I think it will help them rather than hurt once the criticisms are constructive, and in the end I think it will help team P&A to know what people think early on.

Anyway, I am not upset with you. We will all have different opinions at times and will not always agree.

well, lets just move on. Its in the past now. If you read what Adrian has said you wouls see why I had never made a tough criticism before. He said that he had to console girls on occassions after reading the forums. It may not have been a good idea to do such while the pagent was going on or before. So, I hope you understand why I didnt. But, as I said Anya did her best and I wish her the best in the future.

We look forward to MW and I do hope Gabrielle can make top 15.

...thank black women don't do well at MU when it is an Asian host. We could all pretend people don't have preferences but everyone knows that they favor Eurocentric beauty. If a panel is heaven laden with Asian judges (from Asia) they are going to appreciate the Beyonce look more than the Kenisha Thom or Wendy look. At least MW has judges that are not mostly Asians even if the host is from Asia.
