Subject: Thoughts and observations from Madness event today

I went to the event today at the Cintas center and was impressed. Here are some random observations;

West was on fire - didn't keep track of how many points he had (and the fact that they were serving beer didn't help) but there were great drives to the basket, a couple 3's and overall great play from our leader. Standing Ovation for him when introduced. He looked great, no surprise to hear people very appreciative of him staying.

Sato is HUGE. His guns are almost as big as mine. He once again showed great skill and looks like he has worked hard on his game. Fell down and possibly hurt his wrist from what it looked like but still played the entire three - ten minute periods. He can shoot and was dunking with authority in the warmups.

Chalmers Vs Finn. Interesting. Chalmers to his credit had two break away dunks to Finn's one and it was obvious to all that Chalmers has more court experience - but Finn can play. Juked Chalmers out of his shoes with a great crossover to a layup. He missed a couple open shots - but this kid will be very good for Xavier. I was impressed with both of their skill level.

Caudle/Smith. I like them both - Smith had the biggest ovation of the day when he powered up out of nowhere and slammed it home over D. West. OOOHS and AAAHHS filled the Cintas center. It was so good to see how big our team has gotten from last year.

Coleman/Jackson/Young. I have liked all three. Coleman looks more comfortable than ever. Could contribute nicely. Jackson is my underdog for the year. I hope all the rumors of him wanting out are just rumors. Explosive play - great alley-oop and fantastic athletic ability once again shined through from Cincy's own Keith Jackson. Lost the cornrows. Young looks bigger than ever - solid play.

White kids - Did well. The new guy (Christensen? was looking at the cheerleaders more than the ball a couple times and Caldwell threw up a great three for a very nice ovation.

Some minor jawing between Chalmers and Caudle.

Cheerleaders - a couple were pretty cute. The male cheerleader leader was a complete and utter tool. He sucked almost more than the weeman cheerleader. All dorks in my book.

They had a combo Spirit squad and a dance team and the cheerleaders. There were tons of jiggles and even more giggles when they all came out and danced to Twisted Sister (I am not making that up) Some uglys (to be expected) and some girls with massive junk in the trunk and way too many trips to the yogurt machine and taco bar - but there were a couple cuties.

No Sprinkler dork was sighted.

No Khans Krazies and instead of balls they threw T-Shirts.

Band was there - couple face painters.

All in all the play was rusty but it was great to see some basketball action after so many months off.

[> I was at the other end, and the cheer girlies in the short shorts were a significant improvement over last year. Don't try to post about Christianson on the MM boards, though. They'll delete your blasphemy. His parents must be so proud. -- BP, 09:46:55 10/21/02 Mon

[> [> What complete bullshit (more)... -- Jesus Christ, 10:35:53 10/21/02 Mon

He is a 6-4 guard that came from a team that won 4 straight state championships in PA. He was varsity all four years, and only lost 11 games. The kid was first team all state, and he is a walk on for us! That is awesome in my book.

You know his parents and friends follow his progress on the net, and you can't post his name on the MM board without it being deleted. I apologize to his whole family for this whole affair. Some say that Nietzsche killed God, but alas, it was me.

I read Muskieman's comments about the word Christ being deleted because of an "agenda". "Some of the older guys have been around a long time and they deserve to read a board that is not dominated by one or two guys that have a different agenda than Xavier basketball." When I was posting as the SOG, I had half the posts of Muskieman, and somehow "I" was dominating the board. Also, I talked about Xavier basketball, and I am wondering just what agenda that Muskieman is talking about. I am a huge Xavier fan, and if I wasn't I wouldn't have been on these boards for years. If I had an agenda that didn't involve Xavier basketball, I wouldn't be on a Xavier basketball board promoting it. Muskieman is a fool.

[> Chalmers vs. Finn took much of my attention. That is and will be a great battle, with both players making each other better. Lionel is the man for us, but we need Finn to be able to come in and lead this team at some point in every game. I am a big fan of both of them. Watching last night, I got excited about how good this team could be. Man I love XU hoops, and I hope that this is it. -- The Devine Humboldt, 10:41:43 10/21/02 Mon
