Off season news........... -- THE TRUTH, 09:01:39 07/17/01 Tue
Associated Press
DEKALB, Ill. -- The players tried to take the field, but the marching band refused to yield.
By the time it was over, a few musicians had been knocked to the ground, a football player and a coach were under arrest and the school was apologizing.
The incident occurred when about 20 members of the Northern Illinois University football team arrived at their practice field Thursday to find it occupied by a drum corps.
NIU spokeswoman Melanie Magara said the drum corps from Columbus, Ohio, was practicing at Huskie Stadium for the Drum Corps Midwest, an annual event at NIU this weekend that draws 25 drum corps from the United States, Canada and China. Along with one dopey, unemployed, ex-pep band manager from Columbus, OH.
John Binkowski, 32, the school's strength and conditioning coach, approached the leader of the corps, but "the dispute did not get resolved," Magara said.
Details of just what happened are sketchy, Magara said. "But from what we know some members of the football team ran onto the field" while the drum corps was still practicing.
“I saw the whole thing happen.” said a witness that would only identify himself as X Band ’01. “I have not seen abuse of this high level since high school when I was locked in my locker everyday for three straight years by members of the geometry club. Skip never would have let this happen. When I yelled at them to stop, they started chasing me, luckily they still had those drummers stuck to their feet and were unable to run very fast.”
"And two or three of the folks practicing were bumped into, knocked over by football players running from one end of the football field to another." The sobbing and screams for their mommies could be heard up to 2 1/2 miles away.
NIU police were called and Binkowski and a member of the team, 20-year-old Anthony Falbo, were arrested and charged with battery, Magara said. None of the drum corps members suffered injuries that would be considered serious to a "regular" person. Since these we band geeks however three still remain on life support.
The school is investigating the incident. Binkowski has been suspended from his job without pay and could be disciplined, Magara said. NIU officials also said the players involved will be disciplined based on the results of their investigation.
"I am deeply disturbed by this incident and want to personally apologize to members of the Corps and their families," NIU President John Peters said in a prepared statement. "There is no excuse for what happened, and I want to assure all involved that extremely serious measures have and will be taken to ensure that those responsible are appropriately restrained and disciplined. I take that back that X band fag deserved it, he is truly a loser."
NIU football coach Joe Novak echoed Peters' statements, saying he was "extremely disappointed that only members of the drum corps were injured and no ex pep band managers."

On a non basketball related note....... -- THE TRUTH, 21:51:38 07/12/01 Thu
LAS VEGAS -- Tennis stars Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf confirmed Thursday they are expecting a baby.
"This is a very exciting time for us," Agassi said in a statement. "We are so happy to have been blessed with this gift. I tried for years to knock up Brooke before realizing she was a man, almost cost me my carreer."
The baby, the first for both, is due in mid-December and the little bastard should be one hell of a tennis player.
"I do not know what their plans are for marriage," said Todd Wilson, spokesman for Agassi Enterprises.
Agassi, 31, and Graf, 32, began dating after each won their side of the French Open in 1999. Graf retired, having won seven Wimbledon titles and 22 Grand Slams, then was often seen cheering Agassi at tournaments.
The sport's leading couple have been the constant subject of reports, which variously say either that they've broken up or have become engaged. Graf was forced to post a message on her Web site in February 2000 denying reports that she and Agassi were getting married in the summer. "Please be nice and stop bombarding us with mails and faxes, we have no plans marriage and are currently just using each other for sex." the message read.
But the couple might have surprised fans Thursday by announcing, not a marriage, but a baby.
Agassi was previously married to actress Brooke Shields. After they married in April 1997, Agassi's ranking tumbled to No. 141. They divorced two years later, and when he began dating Graf in 1999 in Paris, he simultaneously commenced a career comeback by winning the French Open. He is currently the third-ranked men's player in the world.

Interesting story -- THE TRUTH, 16:35:08 07/12/01 Thu
Today I was walking my dog when I saw a molehill in my neighbors yard start to move. My dog and I stopped to watch if anything would come out, but nothing ever did.
Do you think it was a mole?
What would Skip have done?
Will Thad be able to handle himself if put in a similar situation?
If Coleman caught the mole and ate it would it help him gain weight?
I wonder

Pete Gillen -- THE TRUTH, 23:13:51 07/11/01 Wed
Surprisingly I didn’t see any report of the article on ESPN.com about Pete Gillen’s new contract negotiations on this or the other board all day. I for one am very happy for Pete and feel that he is worth every penny that Virginia will pay him. He was a great asset to Xavier both on and especially off the court during his years at X. While in school the only thing that I could count on more than skipping every Friday morning claass(and most classes on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) because of a hangover, was having Pete sit behind me every Sunday night at 10 pm mass.
Hopefully time will show that we have a similar coach in Thad, which is able to recruit quality players, and also contributes as an ambassador for the university. The last thing we need is a pretentious, brooding coach that is unable to both win the big game and control the on court actions of his players. Granted during Skip’s reign our players weren’t beating their girlfriends and screwing beagles but I think we can have this and a team that wins an occasional big game.

Old Foggies -- The Factor, 13:09:22 07/08/01 Sun
What would the old foggies say if Skip was still here and he recruited Angelo Smith? This guy is listed as 6-7 by Blupchips, and he is 210 pounds soaking wet. The Enquirer beat writer who talks to Matta said that he is a power forward - center. He isn't highly rated by any recruiting service, and he is undersized. I understand the honeymoon period, but the same people jumping for joy over this would be using the same facts as the cause celeb for Skip bashing. Check your consistency at the door, Metamucil chugging old foggies. On a side note, I am taking side bets as to whether X-band has ever been laid (by a living human of the opposite sex).

- You conveniently left out Skip's history of bringing every possible 6-4 swingman who hadn't developed his basketball skills versus Butler's recent history of bringing in PLAYERS who could actually win an NCAA game and/or beat teams like Wake Forest and Wisconsin handily. After 7 years, my patience with Skip had run out. Did you want to give him another 7 to win an NCAA game? (NT) -- GMG, 16:42:49 07/08/01 Sun
- Darnell Williams, James Posey, Lloyd Price & David Young are the swingmen Skip brought in. Your swingman theory might need rethinking. Skip won 1 NCAA game in seven seasons, that is a fact. The swingman theory is not fact, just gibberish. (NT) -- hc, 19:43:21 07/08/01 Sun
- Thanks for proving my point, by avoiding the subject of Antonio Smith. You lost me with the swingman tangent. He is a power forward - center. In fact, in 5 years, he will be a senior, and the old fogies who are praising him will be clamoring that he is not a legitimate big man. You prove to be a hypocrite again. (NT) -- The Factor, 18:20:38 07/09/01 Mon
- You must be a government lawyer. You introduce Skip's 1 win in 7 years as new evidence. I will counter with the fact that the world is round. Smith still sucks on paper, and you know it. (NT) -- Clown Hater, 22:18:58 07/11/01 Wed
- At least he signed someone. We are going into next year 3 light, and the three kids that were interested in us - JUCO Hayes - UMass transfer Branwell, and the Vitas kid from Indy were all higher rated kids. It isn't much to hang your hat on, but I will take it. (NT) -- Pink Dog, 22:23:14 07/08/01 Sun
- I would have much rather had Vitas. He was a high rated high flyer. I don't think Matta doesn't want athletic kids, he went after him and lost him. The kid we signed isn't rated, and I don't want a 6-7 guy that thinks he is a center once West and Fry leave. That is MCC recruiting, and it won't hack it in the A-10. At 210 pounds, he won't stand a chance against Temple's beef. This isn't the MCC. -- Nuchman, 22:41:54 07/09/01 Mon

Moe McAfee Update -- THE TRUTH, 10:41:34 07/10/01 Tue
I read today that Moe McAfee was cut yesterday after a brief stint with the Harlem Globetrotters. Evidently Globetrotter coach Charles “Tex “ Harrison had watched Moe play a few times while at Xavier and knew immediately that his style of play was well suited for the “Clown Princes of the Hardcourt”. “I first saw him play against Miami when he was a sophomore,” Harrison said “He was running all around like a fool chicken with his head cut off, bouncing the ball off of his knees and feet, them socks pulled up so high. I swear I ain’t seen a player take funnier shots, you never knew where the ball would end up, except you knew it wasn’t going anywhere near the bottom of the net.”
McAffey worked out with the team for two short days before team officials realized that Moe’s “act” really was not all that funny. During a scrimmage with the New York Nationals McAfee turned the ball over 12 consecutive times allowing the Generals to establish a 23 point lead that the Globetrotters were never able to recover from. At one point McAfee was even responsible for ruining the timeless “Is it water or paper in the bucket?” trick, when he threw entire bucket into the stands injuring three small children and ex NFL, Raider quarterback Jim Plunket.
“After further review there really is nothing funny about that boy” said Harrison. Shortly after his release McAee signed a three-year deal with the Nationals. National’s coach Mannie Jackson commented “We are very pleased to add Moe to our roster, he will take our level of play to a new level, and I anticipate that he will be leading the team in turnovers very soon.” McAfee thanked everyone for the opportunity and said that he feels that the Nationals play “his style of basketball and that he expects to be joined by his college coach George “Skip” Prosser in the near future”.

To say to this board that this board would be nothing without you or your content - brings up a negative and pisses people off. To also complain about the lack of basketball related posts - with a non basketball post was not needed. I have tried to be fair to you and your family - but taunting this board is like walking into a fireworks store with a tiki torch. Abe Lincoln is rolling over in his grave -- THE TRUTH, 17:24:24 06/27/01 Wed
Gary, I know my lawyer charges $215 an hour. I live in a small town and he is a good lawyer, but not a great lawyer so I am guessing that is fairly average, there are probably many others that charge more and others that charge much less. You work in the government sector so I am going to knock that hourly rate down slightly to lets say $150 an hour( No offense intended but from what I have observed there are less Armani’s and more short sleeve shirts and polyester suits in the AG offices). Judging from your posts, ranging from the short, witless quips like "Is that up or down? or "Is there anyway to free ourselves of the truth?" to your four paragraph rants regarding the vertical leap of a sophomore in high school and his national ranking in HS point guards I would guess that you spend close to 3 hours a day visiting various message boards and recruiting sites. Now I am no accountant ( I don’t even play one on TV), but I think that works out to be $450/day, $2250/week, $117,000/year that you are stealing from the citizen’s of Illinois. Wow, I don’t even think that it cost that much to build Wrigley Field!!!
I only posted this to Pablo’s board because I know you come here repeatedly throughout the day, because you want to hang out with the cool kids. But just like when you were a kid and tried going to the back of the bus, we are kicking your ass and sending you back to the front crying, with x-band, XS, Kokomo Ed and the rest of the band geeks.

In the spirit of Gary’s board where the topic of conversation seems to have stalled because everyone is trying to track down the stats of a 7’6” point guard out of Touraine, France named Pepe Lickmynuts, I thought I would propose some “What if” or “Would you rather” questions to stimulate conversation.
Who would you rather have coaching your team…….Orville Redenbacher or Lew Hirt?
Who would you rather have handling the ball with 30 seconds left in the crosstown shootout, and Xavier down by one…….Meadowlark Lemon or Jesus Christ?
Who would you least like to be stranded on a desert island with ……..Charles Nelson Riley or BigCat?
What is better courtside entertainment……..The OmegaMu dance team….or the “Where’s the beef lady”(dead or alive), and a Frisbee catching dog?
What is older…….Schmidt Fieldhouse or the condom in Gary’s wallet?
Just a few to get us started, the Metamucil chugging fogies on Gary’s board LOVE this game, lets give it a shot ourselves.

Thad sighting -- Darth Poon, 14:38:38 06/23/01 Sat
I was out doing my errands today and after I stopped by the Hustler store for some “groceries.” I saw Thad by his new house. He was shirtless and had a perfectly honed Hoosier gut shaped like a Spalding basketball. He had moderate chest hair that indicated he might have some Italian blood in him. He had a farmer’s tan like most Indiana natives that displayed his preference for “wife beater” undershirts. He seemed in good spirits and was supervising several landscaping professionals tending to his sizeable lawn.
As I looked closer I realized that the lawn care engineers were actually West, Sato, Chalmers, Frey, and Brown. They each were pushing a Toro lawn mower and manicuring his lawn. Coleman, Jackson, and a few others were “on the bench” with their lawn hogs. They had already shaped his lawn like a basketball court (with two three-point arcs) and had just finished up the last foul lane. It was not Cintas, but it looked pretty sweet – especially the Mike Albert Leasing Ads in the grass. I have no idea how they did that!
The most interesting thing was that Thad had them each running plays – while mowing the lawn. It was strange yet enthralling to see our possible staring five all working together in perfect unity running back doors, pick-n-rolls, and post plays flawlessly. I am glad to report that Sato was mowing to the basket with authority! It is obvious Thad runs a tight ship and will emphasize fundamentals and discipline next year. He kept them working on a new play called “the picket fence.” He kept running that again and again and was asking if we should possibly hire a new assistant named “Skeeter.”
I was ready to leave and then I saw “it.” IT is a Butler Bulldog tattoo on his chest! I could not believe it! I don’t know if Thad got it fit in with NCAA regulation 1478.22 that all players must have at least one tattoo or that deep down his heart (and his gut) belong to Butler. I know this may be painful, but I think Thad should have his tattoo removed (or at least moved to his ass) for the good of his team and the Xavier community.

Musketeer Madness, the roundtable and this board -- Pablo, 16:38:32 06/22/01 Fri
After reading NJNP's post - it made me consider things I have yet to consider. Snipe couldn't handle things - got too wrapped up in all the negativity and said, "I don't want the crap that goes with running the board, I'm out!!!"
Gary is facing the same thing - he has been bombarded with posts about him and his family. He has faced lots of heat. He has now changed the board into something that it has never been - posts are now solely under his discretion to let the public see what is being said. This means that he is telling everybody what should and should not be discussed about XU basketball.
Gary prompted the creation of this board b/c I didn't like the censorship of his board and his comments about how he would like to think of an idea to charge people to be a part of discussing Xavier Basketball.
Gary, if you and the selected people that share your views about XU basketball are sick of any other viewpoints - or you are sick of personal attacks from the roundtable - it is time for you to start your own board - one that is not under the name of the roundtable. The roundtable board should be able to discuss basketball - not the boards or moderators themselves.
Gary - you have done a great job, but it might be time for you to consider stepping down as Musketeer madness roundtable moderator and taking your selected forum/people to another realm of internet discussion. It is unfortunate that you and your family were fodder for negative discussion - but you signed up to be the brunt of things as the moderator. If things got too hectic - take a break - relax and start a new board - one with passwords, and for ultra serious discussion only - let me take over - I will put up a link to your board - but let the roundtable remain open and free of censorship and unjust moderator influence.
Best regards
Pablo

Gary Griffin is the deletion king -- The Factor, 12:21:31 06/22/01 Fri
Looks like Griffin deleted my post. All opinions are welcome on his board unless he doesn't like them. He accused me of insulting his family in a post below, and that is a boldface lie. Here is what I wrote:
This board should not be about the moderator. He named the board after himself. He censors debate. The topic continually comes back to Gary Griffin, instead of Xavier Basketball. This is the same man that has attacked others freely in the past, and now he has reinvented himself as the gatekeeper of good taste and the spokesman for the program. I don't want him to have my email address. He complains about his family being attacked, but he has used personal
threats in the past against his own enemies. I wouldn't want my personal privacy violated because I didn't subscribe to the Gary Griffin adgenda. How many people use their real names on this board? How come that Gary attacks only annonimity of only the posters he disagrees with? The man is living proof that it is foolish to disclose your real identity on an internet message board. I don't agree with the attacks on Gary's family, but he himself is not above
personal attacks. When the chickens come home to roost, let he without sin cast the first stone. I think that we could use a neutral moderator, (one without an agenda), to moderate this board. Xband would be a good choice, he is fairly vanilla. Otherwise, this board will constantly be the saga of Gary Griffin, and the board should not be about the
moderator. I agree with some of the trash that has been taken down, but I have seen legitimate points taken down since Griffin took over. I am sick of the whole debate. I think that he should try to keep his inflated ego in check. Griffin may be good for starting a debate, but he makes a terrible moderator.

Gary: Your solution is simply short sighted and will ultimately hurt your board in the long term. Like energy price caps, it will simply not work to your desired effect. Kevin Frey -- wl, 21:41:03 06/19/01 Tue
People should have to take a simple test of basketball knowledge before posting on these boards. I really enjoy the saga of Kevin Frey playing small forward on FG's board. The guy hits about 25% of his outside shots for his career. He has never played small forward, not in grade school, high school, or college. Now it is his senior year, the geriatrics on FG's board of knowledge want to play him at the 3. Some of them even consider it his natural position. What dorks. He doesn't have the ball handling capability of a small forward, he doesn't have the shot of a small forward, and he doesn't have the defensive quickness to cover other small forwards without getting in serious foul trouble. He may be short for a power forward, but he is in no way, shape, or form a small forward. He is one of the best power forwards in the A-10, but he isn't close to being a decent small forward in this league. He is not a small forward. He is not a combo forward. He is a power forward that needs a late growth sput which ain't gonna happen. I have read the same stupid argument over and over. Some of the fossils on FG's board need to strap on the depends and get back to taking their medication. We have no depth in the front line, yet they obsess in switching a very capable power forward out of position, all for no good reason. Dorks.

I agree fully. We are at a crucial time where last year there were circumstances that held us back (Sato not being aggressive/going to the board) Skip's lack of bench pt, a schedule/RPI that compared to this years was horrible... and a general breakdown of team dynamics late in the year (for whatever reason - I still believe petty jealousy) but this year a breath of fresh air is surrounding the team. Now only if we could get another big man -I would be more confident about the upcoming season.

Muskies -- TexX, 18:00:43 06/20/01 Wed
With regards to next year there has already been a lot of talk about will and won't happen next season due to factors such as returning players, recruits, lack of size, choking ability in the past, etc. While it is a cop out to say let's wait and see how it is going to play out, in this instance I think it is ok to make such a statement. We have absolutely no idea how are players are going to fit into Matta's system or vice versa. We really do not have any idea what kind of coach Matta is either - while he has been successful so far he has only been a head coach one year I believe. He may be as good as advertised or he may not, as a fan I hope that he is and believe that he is from what little I saw of his Butler team play last year. Personally, I think that he will find a way to make this team successful and with a full year of recruiting ahead of him will do a good job for the following year in filling in the holes which need to be filled. Of course only time will tell.

Thad sighting -- Darth Poon, 17:59:42 06/16/01 Sat
I saw Thad today at Thorton’s on Reading Road. He was in good spirits as he filled up with $1.59 per gallon “Plus” gas. He paid with a visa and then proceeded into the store. He bought a Diet Coke and a pack of Wrigley’s gum. He paid with a five and used the “give a penny – take a penny” jar. He told the crowd that it “sure was hot out there” and told the fat clerk to “take care of herself.”
I then followed him to the drive through on Reading. He bought a couple of 40’s of OE and insisted on the brown paper bag wrapper “for proper insulation.” Thad then went to the Cintas Center and caught up with his coaching crew in the parking lot. They poured out a sip “for all his homies” and talked about how they will run “the picket fence at ‘em” next year.
They were in good spirits until Chief Couch and his safety Nazi’s arrived on the scene. It was unbelievable! Couch and XU-50 proceed to cuff-n-stuff em and then whacked the crap out them with their batons! At first, Thad and his posse did not complain because of safety, Xavier recently stopped XU-50 from using real, wooden batons (and made them use plastic “wiffle batons”). But Couch was thorough and after 27 lashes, Thad and his coaching crew begged them to stop “because they were tired.”
Chief Couch realized the error of his way, apologized, and let Thad off with a warning and a small $560 fine. Thad was upset and muttered something about “driving a combine up the mall” and got in his car and peeled out of the parking lot.
I hope this does not impact his coaching abilities or his impression of the Xavier Community.

He is one of the most influential fans in all of Xavier basketball. Your board is just garbage and trash. For the good of the University, I suggest that you shut it down now. Man are you guys losers. However, after reading some of these posts, I can't help but feel a little embarrassed. Telling someone to "go f- yourself" is out of line. Xavier is a classy school with classy alumni and students. This board has not received many hits, and I'm sure the content has something to do with it. When the season starts up, there will be quite a few more hits, and I'm sure this board will be more active. I just hope people aren't going to be appalled when they come to this board and see some of the comments written. We are talking about a class school here, so let's show some class while we do it.

This was from BIG CAT -- Pablo, 13:16:37 06/07/01 Thu
Thu
As an architect, I know the general events of how the Shoe was conceived...the original architects were Gruen & Associates out of LA. They designed an arena that at that time (mid 1980's)was much more than they could afford. They regrouped, with the design fee fund that they had left, by hiring a small local architectural firm (Glaser) to provide them with a "building" that could function as a college basketball arena. The Shoe was completed for the 1989 season, Huggins' first at UC. At that time the team/sport did not have that much clout with the University and was not treated with the prestige that the program would ultimately evolve into. They also had not embarked on the major "architectural" upgrade to the campus that has been underway over the past 8 years, whereby they have introduced major architectural designs by many of the top architects in the world. (Graves, Eisenman, etc.)
Since the mid-80's when the Shoe was designed, there have been a number of architectural firms around the country that have specialized in "sports architecture". The timing of Xavier's arena allowed them to utilize the experience of these firms to create a state of the art arena. Cintas is a great facility for the sport of basketball. You are probably correct in that the UC will most likely do some sort of addition to the Shoe which rounds off the seating and resituates the playing floor with respect to the sight lines. But this has been under consideration for a number of years, having more to do with the success that UC has had and less to do with "keeping up" with X. X was not the first nor will they be the last to create great basketball environment. Looking forward to watching the shootout in the Cintas for the first time next winter.

I had to go to a high school graduation last Saturday at the Shoe. Like most graduations, it was truly painful and a new level of Hell for me. I could not help to compare The Cintas Center to the Shoe. The Shoe looked cramped, had a poor seating layout, and seemed like a big High School gym. I know the Shoe is older (8 years?) but, the Cintas Center simply outclasses it as a stadium. My guess is that UC will build a new arean within the next 5 years.
Finally, UC's campus was unimpressive. What's up with those various hills and mounds on the quad?

Should players from foreign countries be allowed to play high school ball here even though they are already old enough to have graduated? - considering that Donald Little was 22 and a Fu*#@( sophmore. How the hell can someone be 22 and a soph. That amazes me - but back to the question - should ability and being foreign give these players an extra edge?

Importance of maturity lost on Cincy's Little
By Dick Vitale
SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM
There have been too many instances where players have been in trouble off the court. Athletes have to realize they are accountable for their actions. How many chances does a person want?
Think about Cincinnati sophomore center Donald Little, who was the Bearcats' leading rebounder and shot-blocker last season. He would have been a big factor for Bobby Huggins on the baseline. But Little never understood that he had to grow up and take advantage of the opportunities provided him.
Huggins had no choice when he decided to dismiss Little from the basketball team recently. The latest incident came when the center was arrested for a number of motor-vehicle violations, including driving under the influence of alcohol.
For Little, this wasn't his first run-in with the law. There was an incident in a bar earlier this month; he was accused of kicking a female bartender. He also had a previous driving arrest and suspended license.
Now he is outside looking in. His conduct was termed as "detrimental to the basketball program." That is putting it mildly.
What's happening is sad. That was a slap to the Cincinnati program, but you can only do so much. As a coach, you can't walk the player to bed ever night, holding his hand. The athlete has to look in the mirror and know the difference between right and wrong. The player has to realize that he not only represents himself but also his family and the university he plays for.
Little didn't understand that.
It's time that some of these athletes realize the importance of being a champion off the court as well as on it. I don't think it's asking too much to have a player carry himself as a gentleman.
In many cases, if these players weren't athletes and weren't in the limelight, with people in their corner, they wouldn't get as many opportunities when having off-court problems.
Too many times you hear about a player getting chance after chance. After a while, you run out of breaks. That was the case with Little.

The Beat(ing) Goes On -- The Bob Huggins Political Machine, 21:43:33 05/16/01 Wed
Donald Little, BJ Grove, and two other UC players who still remain unidentified were involved in an asault on numerous people on the 3rd of May. Heard anything in the news lately? Guess not, and you won't if the Bob Huggins Political Machine has its way.
Officer Jay Johnstone had an arrest warrant for Donald Little on 5/3, but did we ever hear when he or BJ Grove was taken into custody?
While Police were looking for this wanted fugitive, "UC sports spokesman Tom Hathaway said university officials have talked with Little and are looking into what happened. He would not reveal what Little told athletic director Bob Goin, but did say Little's account conflicted with police and witness statements.''At this point we do not see any violation of the athletic department rules of policies,'' Hathaway said.
I have to question that if the police are looking for a wanted man and can't find him, what are UC authorities doing discussing the case with him and making press releases? It is the not so invisible hand of The Bob Huggins Political Machine.
It is also comical that that Mr. Hathaway can't see any violation of athletic department rules or policies. UC players have raped women, beat women, thrown flower pots at women's heads, thrown pregnant women in bathtubs and broke bottles over their skulls, and they have busted girlfriends heads wide open by smashing them on bedboards. I am sure I am missing a count or two, so I apologize. After all of these incidents, it is hard for me to even imagine what entails a violation of university policy at the University of Cincinnati.
You ever hear Lance McAlister talk about it lately? Does anyone else in the media look into the matter? I think not. People are used to this happening at UC so much that it has become a non issue. People make casual jokes about another UC player assaulting another woman. It is sad.
This matter has been swept under the covers by the Bob Huggins Political Machine. Some basic questions need to be answered.
Was Donald Little or BJ Grove ever taken into custody? The two other players involved were not named. Why? Who are they? What would constitute a violation of University policy? What is the status of these players at UC?
What you will hear is the sound of silence, and if you listen closely, you can hear the lawyers preparing and the money changing hands in Clifton. This issue will be handled just like the others that have come and gone.
I predict that Donald Little, BJ Grove, and the other two players involved will suit up this fall for the University of Cincinnati. Both players had prior offenses. This is not a first time deal where somebody was in the wrong place at the wrong time. This is business as usual in Clifton.
BJ Grove has a rap sheet a mile long, he spent his youth in juvenile prison camp. He was cuffed by police on the steps of his own high school and taken away until he was an adult. As an adult while playing at UC, he threw the pregnant mother of his own child into a bathtub and busted bottles over her head.
But in Clifton, the beat goes on. Huggs keeps winning, and innocent women keep getting hurt, chewed up and spit out by the Bob Huggins Political Machine.
Be sure to check out Donald Little, BJ Grove, and the rest of Hugg's thugs suit up next fall at the Shoe.
It is an outrage.

Ruben Patterson -- The Bob Huggins Political Machine, 22:43:24 05/17/01 Thu
Ruben Patterson is in jail for rape as we speak. About half a year ago, he plead guilty of assault in Cleveland.
While at UC, Ruben accepted cars from 2 different agents. He accepted room and board for services that he didn't perform. He was furnished with a condo and a steady supply of money from a local agent and UC Booster. Condos, Cars, and Cash, all because he was a star.
One night during the season, Ruben busted his girlfriends skull open on a bedboard. Police and reporters rushed to the scene. In the next day, the paper reported that Ruben was wanted for lacerations to the skull of his young girlfriend. The Political Machine got stableboy John Burlew, a local bigwig attorney, to pursuade the woman to dismiss the charges. They basically either threatened her or bought her off. The local yocal UC fans stood behind the dismissed case, claiming that we didn't know all the facts. It was never a question that Ruben was the one who opened up her skull on the bedboard, as several witnesses were present. The only facts that we didn't know was just how much money changed hands.
Flash forward to today, and you will see that Ruben Patterson has a history of violent crime. Maybe if something was done in 1997, that poor Nanny wouldn't have been raped by that no good thug. The question of his guilt in 1997, 2000, or 2001 has never even been a question.
UC fans will tell you that once a player graduates, Huggins shouldn't be responsible for them. When they tell you that, remind them about Ruben Patterson. Had he paid the price in 1997, he could have spared the life changing trauma that rape has inflicted on a young nanny.
Of special relevance is the current case against 4 UC thugs that assaulted innocent civilians in a Clifton bar. BJ Grove in particular has a history of violent crime. Donald Little also has priors. This case is currently being swept under the table. A settlement will be reached, or witnesses bought off, and nothing will come of it. Those 4 kids will be playing basketball instead of paying the price.
And years from now, when big John Grove rapes or mutilates another person, UC fans will say that he is no longer with the program, and it can't be controlled.
But for now, they will play ball. You can't fight the Bob Huggins Political Machine?
Where is Lance McAlister on this? Is it simply not news? Have the police apprehended Donald Little or BJ Grove yet, or should we call them if we get a sighting?

Carry on my wayward sons, I encourage every person that supports this board to crack a 40 tonight and pour it out on the curb as a tribute to any of our fallen brothers that have been taken out by Gary and his “Legion of Humorless Goons.”

My response to the link to www.voy.com/29306/ being stricken -- Pablo J. Escobar, 15:50:21 05/17/01 Thu (spider-to054.proxy.aol.com/152.163.204.69)
Hello Xavier Basketball Fans. I will try my hardest to write a proper post that conforms 100% to Garys rules above so that my voice can be heard. I tried very hard to appease Gary and protect him from some bad posting that were submitted to my board. I deleted many posts - asked over and over to people to leave him and his family alone - let us talk XU hoops. Gary posted in response numerous times thus fanning the flames even more against him. These message boards are not about the moderators - we should be in the background - not the subject of the boards. My board was started b/c you were putting your thumb on every post - every idea had to agree with yours or it was stricken. Mine is a little more lax b/c the board is not about Pablo J. Escobar - nor is it about Gary Griffin and his family. It is a shame that this has to be your way or no way. Email me Gary, at Pablojescobar@hotmail.com and I will explain my side in more detail. I have tried to be fair to you and it is sad that your ego had to come into play again. If people want to discuss all aspects of basketball come to my board as well for opinions that aren't entirely the moderators. And if my board fails - big deal it won't bother me for a second and it is sad that Gary has to get this worked up over seemingly small things.
By the way - I am a Xavier Grad - a Premium level 1 season ticket holder and most importantly an open minded Xavier Fan.
Go Muskies.

You are all a disgrace to Xavier University. Don't you see you are no better than UC fans. B.J. Grove merely kicked a woman in the abdomen - such antics are the norm for Huggins' Henchman. At least BJ Grove has a girlfriend; remember that one woman is one more than Gary Griffin has ever had. Go ahead and mock the Bob Huggins Political Machine if you must, but respect its power. Gerald O'Dell took on Bob Huggins and Bob is the one left standing.

Gary bashing -- THE TRUTH, 13:57:12 05/15/01 Tue
The post below that gives out Gary’s work phone number isn't cool. This board wasn't established to bash Gary (or his sister), it was established to talk Xavier basketball and occasionally bash a fat assed member of the dance team or anyone else that needs a good kick. Leave Gary alone, he isn't a bad guy he is just running a board frequented by WWI vets and CPA's with no sense of humor. Let them talk about zone defenses and Metamucil and we can talk about what ever we want on Pablo's fine board.

This is sad that everything that Gary is writing - is actually dumbing down this board/taking away from proper basketball discussion that was starting to sprout like the hair transplants that Gary had gotten for xmas. Gary - I think you are posting on this board - solely to piss your board off and thus lead to the eventual destruction of my board. Grow up - don't sweat the small stuff and lets go Muskies!!!

Self Inflicted Wounds -- The Factor, 23:55:39 05/14/01 Mon
Gary brings it all on himself. Do you think that he would use his real name if his sister wasn't famous? Without his famous sister, he is reduced to being a balding old fat man with a government job that surfs the net all day on the taxpayer's dollar. He has no family of his own. His precious board and his famous sister are all he has. I have never said anything about his sister, but I certainly wouldn't put my sister up for discussion on one of these internet boards. Gary did, and that is why we all know who both he and his sister is. If you don't want public scrutiny, don't put your personal information on the table. His wounds are self inflicted.

Patterson -- Pablo J. Escobar, 01:06:02 05/16/01 Wed
SEATTLE (AP) - Seattle SuperSonics forward Ruben Patterson was sentenced Tuesday to a year in jail with all but 15 days suspended as he entered a modified plea to an attempted rape charge.
Patterson wept as he entered an Alford plea, under which he did not admit guilt but agreed a jury might convict him.
Patterson was accused of attempting to rape the family's nanny in September at the family home in suburban Bellevue.
The maximum punishment for attempted third-degree rape, a gross misdemeanor, is one year in jail and a $5,000 fine.
Patterson also was placed on two years probation by King County Superior Court Judge Brian Gain.
Patterson told the court he did not participate in criminal activity but acknowledged he cheated on his wife.
"I would like to apologize to anyone I have hurt: including my wife, my family, my team and my fans," he told the courtroom.

Garys sister and posting under other peopls names -- Pablo, 14:59:01 05/15/01 Tue
Both are played out - since it seems that people are posting under Garys name (through an AOl account)the only option is to re-enlist IP postings - thoughts?
I deleted Garys work number - that is not cool. He has another board that discusses Xavier basketball. Yes I disagree with his deleting some posts for arbitrary reasons and putting his own personal beliefs above those of the fans.
But I strongly disagree about posting his work number or any posting SERIOUS bad things about his family - this being said - it makes this board look bad - prompts other people to bash us/me on Garys board and just detracts from this board.
Lets talk basketball...
Pablo

Thoughts from Pablo J. Escobar -- Pablo, 20:55:41 05/14/01 Mon
Ok - here are my feelings - Garys family is not XU basketball - My family is not XU basketball - our families have nothing to do with this and should not be fodder for discussion. As for the other posts that Gary has asked me to delete - I am getting hammered on the other board b/c of what is being posted on this board. - I signed up to be the brunt of things I guess. Gary should not look for protection from me simply because the only posts that are free from ever getting deleted on his board are the ones critical of me and my board. Yet Gary has posted many things today on my board that would not even come close to staying up for five minutes on his board yet alone have any class. I will delete the postings about Gary's sister.
More on this later.

He couldn't win big games, he never won at UD or at Miami, the only reason he could beat UC is because it's a player's game, not a coaches game. Skip have fun trying to win at the Dean Dome or Cameron.

With All Due Respect...... -- ReX, 10:17:14 05/12/01 Sat
With all due respect, I recognize that differences of opinion will always exist and individuals tend to get upset when their opinions are censored via deletion and therefore not made public. All of our opinions regarding Skip, the AD, the schedule, etc., etc., were relative to XU basketball and should be seen and heard. However, with that said, I find it embarrasing and distasteful that ANYONE even remotely associated with Xavier University would allow a post such as Zepp's below (making reference to f***ing some girl in the ass) to stay up. Search engine algorithms vary widely in their makeup and capabilities and to return a "hit" of "f***ing up the ass" when searching for Xavier University is something you should take quite seriously.

I have also been sent a ton of emails with funny/bad stories about Zepp from college friends of his - so if he keeps it up and makes people mad (and this board looking bad) I will start posting ZEPP stories for all to read and laugh. I would like this board to be somewhere we talk about basketball - lets try to do that. GO MUSKIES!!!

Andy Mac/Friar Tuck seperated at birth? -- THE TRUTH, 15:05:34 05/11/01 Fri
Have you seen Andy Mac's picture on musketeermadness.com? HE IS FRIAR TUCK!!!
Father Graham should get rid of the dance team and slap a brown, burlap robe on Mac and have him dance around during timeouts at the games. The only things funnier than a chubby old guy dancing to “Who let the dogs out” or any song by MC Hammer while looking exactly like Friar Tuck are monkeys wearing little hats. (No Mrs. Schott I am not referring to the Red’s starting outfield.)

Good Luck P -- Sniper, 23:25:18 05/10/01 Thu
Good luck to you. Babysitting these things can be a major pain in the ass. They tend to attract people with strange issues coming from all angles.
I have seen many boards come and go over the years. I applaud your effort, but most boards die within the first two months if not sooner. The life expectancy isn't long, so you have to keep it fresh. Without effort, they die pretty easily. I would be surprised if you are getting any hits next month, or maybe even next week. And that isn't meant to be an insult.
I am not the biggest Griffin fan, but I have been in his position. It is impossible to please all the people, and the people with negative things to say are usually far louder than the rest of us.
One word of advise would be to keep your personal information personal, and keep it out of the public domain. You don't want it coming back to haunt you. Only an idiot puts his name on the internet with all the psychos out there. When people know you, and you don't know them, it gives them a little bit of sick power. It is discomforting, so don't let it happen.
Good luck.
