Subject: RhitTaker Playoffs

We live in a society where mediocrity is rewarded, and that people strive to be lucky, rather than good. About half of the A's given in school probably should be C's at best. Instead of being original, the entertainment industry would rather re-hash mildly successful drivel. Human evolution is in a downward spiral, and while we won't see the results, it will lead to the demise of the human race.

So, in keeping with the times, certain members of RhitTaker are pushing to add another playoff team to the mix. RhitTaker has long prided itself on two things. One, that the playoffs are not watered down by having half the league involved. Two, the team that proves itself to be the best over 14 weeks of grueling RhitTaker action gets an advantage in the playoffs. That is why we have employed the 3-team playoff system for all but one fateful season. In that season, Skip (probably the least talented player in RhitTaker's history) mockingly beat me (unquestionably the strongest player in the history time) in the RhitTaker Bowl by one-half of a point. Had we stuck with what made us great, Deryal would have beaten Skip in the RhitTaker Bowl handily. Deryal's team that year had the best record in the league's history at 13-1, and was unquestionably the league's best team. He should not have had to play for the right to take part in the RhitTaker Bowl. But we changed the rule that year, and he got the reward of playing me.

Anyway, the question is if we want to lower our standards and admit another team to the playoffs. Certain members are pushing very hard for this. They have already admitted to themselves that they are not good enough to field the best team in the league. They want another spot in the playoffs, so that possibly their mediocre teams could sneak in, and have a couple of big weeks. Well, they're probably right. I have an 82% playoff percentage in my 11 RhitTaker seasons. So, there's one spot right there. Kurt came in last year as the most ballyhooed rookie in the league's history, and did nothing to disappoint. So, that leaves the mediocrity to fight over one spot. I guess if I were in their shoes, I would want another playoff spot, too. But I hope, as a league, we can rise above petty selfishness, and do what is best for the league, not ourselves. Let's keep the playoffs special. Let's keep the traditional 3-team playoffs.

Let's hear some thoughts on the matter, and reach a conclusion.
