The basis of our little experiment is: We will consider a pre-draft, pre-draft order selection scenario, wherein all teams are deemed "equal".

4 Team Playoff Proposal-
(Event 1) Odds of making the playoffs = 4/14
(Event 2) Odds of making The RhitTaker Bowl = 1/2
Final Odds to make the RhitTaker bowl = 4/14 * 1/2 = 4/28 = 1/7

3 Team Playoff Proposal-
(Event 1) Odds of making the playoffs = 3/14
(Event 2) Odds of making the RhitTaker Bowl = 2/3
Final Odds to make the RhitTaker bowl = 3/14 * 2/3 = 6/42 = 1/7

Which we could have surmised just by saying, with 14 equal teams, you have a 1 in 14 chance to win the fucking championship.

The practical difference = 0
The philospohical difference = 4-Team Endorsers want an easier road to a more difficult playoffs. 3-Team Endorsers want a harder road to an easier playoffs. The pussiness factor is present in both groups, but the total pussocity is in balance.

I say that the Playoffs are where real teams show their shit, and it makes for a more entertaining playoffs to have every playoff team going at it in the playoffs and RT bowl. I mean, if it's not about proving your mettle when it counts, why not just scrap the playoffs altogether, and just have a 16 week regular season and the team with the most rhits at the end of the 16 weeks is the champion?
