After a second viewing, I'll back down a bit on my initial Scully analysis. Her presence wasn't quite as superficial as my initial impression.

However, I still think she could have done something to stop Mulder if she thought he was being irresponsible and out of line. That doesn't mean she has to dispute him in front of the prisoner. One well timed "Mulder..." or "Mulder, can I talk to you for a second?" could have done the trick. I just think that she could have intervened somehow.

I agree with detoured on Mrs. Mulder. As my sister said: Ding dong, the witch is dead.

On an unrelated note, thanks to detoured and others who pointed out that the show Mr. LaPierre was watching was Harsh Realm. I kept looking at it thinking, "Am I supposed to know what show this is?" There were a couple of things I missed the first time around that I was able to look for in the second viewing.
