Subject: Det - no 'Closure' yet, I'm afraid

Last Sunday, we have had a - what do you call it : a pre-emption (makes it sound grand and official - to me it is just an excuse to deprive viewers of a continuing series, for the benefit of who???). This last Sunday, was an XF wasteland!

But ITA with you about DD's career. Is he the one who has picked the comedy direction? Or is he getting bad advice? I *do* think he is funny. Very much so, but he is too handsome to be *just* funny. (If you know what I mean!) It's like putting Mel Gibson only into comedy. Yes, Mel can do it, but he is also an excellent straight actor. I'd like DD to get the opportunity to shrug off the shadow of Mulder and show Hollywood that he is an excellent actor, who could excel in whatever he does. Actually, I'd like to see himn do what Robert Redford did - show he is a leading man with maturity, but someone who does not need the Hollywood Gravy Train to do it. I could see DD with British directors, doing something like 'The English Patient'. I hate to mention George Clooney, but he is doing rather well, these days, across the board of genres.

The LG are friends, but I don't get the impression he hangs out with them. Theirs is a friendship of shared information. They are *much* more paranoid than Mulder, when all is said and done.....
