Det – are you getting impatient? I suppose I don’t want to let one review go before we have had a chance to write as much as we can about the eps. I’ve been saving my thoughts until I felt we had more or less exhausted what went before. But just for you:

Orison

Well, I was very impressed with this episode. Donnie was as sinister as I remember him and I liked the interweaving of this story with a religious theme this time around. The good versus evil/Jesus v The Devil story was strongly told. I liked how Mulder supported Scully and remembered how much Donnie had upset her first time around. I didn’t like how Mulder behaved true to form over the religious aspects and was not coming at the case from the same angle as Scully. But whatever you say about Mulder and religion, he does seem to try and help Scully. He may be misguided by dismissing religion so lightly, but at least he is trying to avoid her feeling pain and this is an admirable quality.

It is nice to see that it is possible for a follow-up to be of good calibre (Donnie even had his ‘girlie girl’ catch phrase intact!). Compare this to the extremely poor Kitsunegari, next to ‘Pusher’. I believe this case was a worthy ’Part Two’.

Another amusing fight scene – Scully very nearly had Donnie in the fist fight/unarmed combat. How does that woman achieve such results from her diminutive frame. Taking it with a pinch of salt, it certainly looked good! In my notes I wrote that this show would not look out of place in Season 1 or 2. I think that’s true; it had a similar atmosphere to the early seasons and a good solid serious investigation took place. Great.

I had to agree with Scully at the end that “the law doesn’t [allow for vengeance]” Mulder was at least supportive once again, but she shouldn’t have shot Donnie, should she. It’s a good job Mulder was present and understood why she shot Pfaster, because she would have had a lot to answer for back at the FBI after that!
