You may be right, that there was too much already in the ep, to allow a space for Scully's beliefs, but I worried that she seemed so anti *this* religion. She came across as quite dismissive (I can't go so far as to say bigoted) and yet what Enoch was preaching, albeit in his Fire and Brimstone way, was only what he interpreted in the Bible. So, was she being deliberately cool and FBI about it, or was she looking down on *his* religion as being inferior to her own?

I am also an atheist, Sig (Coincidence!) so I, too, let the religiousness go over my head. I think the snake pregnancy thing was really gruesome (no -icky is the word!). Didn't like that at all. Enoch's sermons were great theatre I thought - I congratulated the actor in my head for his performance.

Here's how I reacted to the whole:

At the beginning, I was intrigued - Mulder and Scully's opening scene was of the serious variety and it seemed like it could be a good episode. But I began to really dislike the way it was going, after fifteen minutes. It was just one unexplained snake death after another and I did not really like it. Having said that - I was of course paying close attention to Mulder and Scully, who again, I'm happy to say, were in it throughout. Mulder seemed to be quite impressed by the idea of avoiding the snake's bite by showing your righteousness, but I think, in the end, this episode ended up on the religious sceptic's side (ie Mulder's) He was bitten, in spite of being a lovely person. Does anyone think that maybe, for once, Mulder was putting a Biblical (religious) truth to the test? If so, this is quite an important moment, given his usual lukewarm approach to religion.

The last scene was very ludicrous. Pure 'V' - if people remember that SciFi series??!

Mulder and his tieless and jacketless wanderings was very strange. I wondered if it was maybe too hot for a tie, but Scully was wearing a coat. Was Mulder thwarting authority? He looked very lovely throughout the ep, I thought (had to share a Mulder Moment there...). My favourite quote was Mulder's "Someone offering you all the answers could be a very powerful thing" I wondered if he was thinking of CSM and the occasions where Mulder has been offered answers!
