I don't know, when I think of The X-Files and what it means I think the mythology eps are what the show is really about storywise. But if I were to define the show to someone clueless about it I think I would say it is the journey of two people and all the obstacles they encounter together. To show that I think I'd have to pick an episode like Sein and Zeit because it involves Mulder on a very personal level and I think he is the central character. But it also tells the viewer how Scully is involved in his life and we get a strong sense of their relationship. And I don't mean the shippyness at all, just the incredible bond they've grown to have together.
