It is interesting that you say that because I read an interview once where CC said that Scully was the central character. He felt that the development of her character from scientific non-believer through this relationship with Mulder to the level of believer herself was the journey he was writing. You can see this attitude most vividly in the pilot as it is Scully that we follow into the building and introduce to Mulder. But we can also see it in Requiem and in the Sept. 2000 "Starlog" article, CC says that he only wanted to come back to the X-Files with Gillian [on-board] he added DD as an after-thought. I think that he also said ,elsewhere, that Scully's journey was the one toward which the viewers could more easily relate.
