like you, I thought it was pretty good. Not one of the best eps this season, but certainly not one of the worst either. There were things I liked and disliked. For instance. . .
I liked the way Mulder and Scully's cases kind of parallelled each other and the fact that she was able to solve the original case first and it turned out not to even be an X-File.
I liked the fact that the main case (the one Mulder was working on) was set someplace other than California or the D.C. area. Honestly, that might have been the highlight of the whole episode for me!!
I really think this episode would have been a *LOT* better if it hadn't been "Scully-lite". The contrast between the two "couples" — the local sheriff with his "perfect homemaker" wife and Mulder with his "equal partner" Scully would have been terrific!! I understand the need for an occasional ep in which GA makes only a brief appearance, but I wish they would have chosen another script — "Theef" maybe? — to have Mulder go solo and let Scully join him in New England for this case.
A very minor thing that is beginning to bother me: we're now, apparently, in another "time warp", like we were when they aired "Millennium" in November. Since the woman disappared on Easter Sunday, and Mulder was called in two weeks later, the whole ep apparently took place in May. That means, for the rest of this month, we'll have to be assuming it's May or June.
Also, it was rumored that there was going to be some "cell phone shippiness" in this ep. I wouldn't classify any other the calls as shippy. Did I just miss something?
