I got in here but for some reason my keyboard wouldn't let me type. That's over, so I'm baa-ack!

Please don't tell me that you didn't see this as a mythology. Samantha! CSM! The title of the episode! (And yes, February.) This was clearly part of the mythology and now we're supposed to focus on da da da..... How much did Mulder's parents know about the abduction? What happened as little Jeffrey and Samantha grew up together? Is there anyone on the X-Files that isn't the child of CSM? I agree that this weeks episode didn't wipe out the alien plot line. There were still tests being performed, and the secrets and lies, yadda yadda yadda. Still, Mulder has been brought to question the existence of aliens (and also question his work and his sanity) so many times in the past. If this comes up AGAIN (regardless of this non-alien explanation) I'm going to scream! I don't want the whole focus of the new mythology to be the Mulder family history. Oh, one more question on the mythology issue- Can you actually see the "starlight" theme being incorporated into future mythology? No? Gee, seems kind of weak, doesn't it?

In the past, Mulder has had such cool informants. Harold (aka GWB) seems so lame compared to X. X was dark, sexy, and mysterious. Marita was pretty and had insider knowledge. Harold was schizophrenic and squinted a lot. I just didn't like the parallel between Mulder, Harold and the jail pixie. I thought it was the end was to obvious- Harold acting childish, saying "No, no! I don't care what you say, I'm not gonna believe you! Not gonna, not gonna, not gonna!" (Okay, maybe those weren't his exact words.) We're supposed to see Mulder's immaturity in Harold, although we're also supposed to see that his desire and ability to help others has had benefits for other people. Harold, the wrongly convicted. Harold, the believer. Harold, the suffering. Mulder's name could have replaced Harold's before, but not now. Seems too scripted to me.

Another part of Closure that seemed to scream "This is a script! This is only a script! In the event of an actual situation, you would be instructed to take proper viewing precautions" was the Scully/CSM scene. I just didn't buy that their first meeting (card, card!) would lack that much emotion on Scully's part. Yeah, I know she can't just whip out her gun and kill him, and I know that he's not going to dance or cry, but I just didn't find the meeting very believable. Maybe that's my spirtuality talking.

Because of the history of the X-files, there are several "cards" CC has up his sleeve-- Mulder and Scully kiss. Mulder finds Samantha. An alien is actually shown on screen. Mulder finds out who his real father is. Scully becomes a believer-- CC *has* had the intent to be sneaky, giving us glimpses of those cards, waving them in front of our faces, burying them and painting them different colors, doing everything but laying them down in front of us. When we do get the card, you better believe that we're glad to have it. I feel like CC just decided "Eh, I don't want it anymore and the fans will be glad to have it. Here ya go," and tossed it at us, trying to make it seem like a grand gesture. I think we're supposed to believe that No, we don't know all the answers about Mulder's sister, but Mulder is satisfied that she's at peace and no longer feels the need to pursue her (and that's what really matters, right?). In other words, we weren't given answers but hey, that's okay, because there's no reason to question anymore.

Yes, but you'd keep him captive after that, now wouldn't you? ;-)

I guess my problem is that I didn't feel like I was watching a show, rather I felt as if I were reading a script that never managed to come together.

hairytoes, actually really enjoying the opposing view points. I've already decided that I don't like next week's episode. ;-)
