...because of how flustered M is when asked to father the child. If they were an intimate couple seeking fertility help...wouldn't HE be the OBVIOUS choice for father. OK, maybe if they just started the NP it might through him for a loop that she wants to have kids with him. But this is post Cancer so I really think Mulder wouldn't have been as shy if they were having sex already.
