Subject: I'd like to think
In reply to: kande 's message, "So what does Scully believe?" on 14:02:53 02/16/00 Wed

that she doesn't believe the walk-in theory. I think she wants to believe that Samantha is dead, if only so that it will be over for Mulder. She knows how much pain he's gone through and she wants as badly as he to be "free". (said that with a straight face, honest.) CW reminded me that up until this point, EVERYONE, associated with CSM or not- the alien bounty hunter, the clones, and numerous "psychics"- has said that Samantha is alive. I'd like to think Scully is like me- She knows she doesn't have any *proof* that Samantha is dead and doesn't quite buy the starlight explanation, but is willing to believe if only so that she doesn't have to think about it anymore. I definitely don't think that one day she'll come up to Mulder and say, "Gee Mulder, I don't really think your sister's dead. There isn't any proof." Oooh, there's a question. If she doesn't believe, is she willing to let Mulder? In this case, I think I'd say yes.

I think Scully thinks that Mrs. Mulder knew what happened to Samantha, and she places Mrs. Mulder and CSM together. I don't know whether or not Mulder told Scully that CSM was his father (or if he believed that or not), but Scully suspects something.

I don't know if it was "restraint", but I do think that Scully realized that since this was something Mulder started on his own, he needed to deal with his own way.

I didn't read anyone saying this, but I do NOT think that Scully wanted to get the Samantha issue resolved so that she and Mulder could move on to white picket fences. Firstly, it's not a precursor to the relationship. Secondly, I believe that Scully has absolutely no thought of herself when it comes to Samantha, she only cares about helping Mulder for his sake. I know some people said that Mulder would have to find Samantha before the MSR could progress, but she already loves him broken.

Scully has seen CSM before, she knows who he is. I can't remember Scully and CSM being in the same room together before. Can you think of a time? In any case, this was the first time they spoke, and I wish it were more memorable.

hairytoes, desperate for conversation
