The Johns were most likely entering their golden age, and the huge farm house was beginning to be too much to take care of, and they are downsizing. I do think that if Brian were still living he would be there. Many celebrity "Rock Stars" that made it big in the 60's like McCartney,Clapton, Steve winwood, and the other Stones, still have their early homes, even if they have many more spread out around the world.
