- Did you all ever see the photo of the remnants of the bonfire? -- karen, 20:00:12 02/02/11 Wed (pool-72-64-124-215.dllstx.fios.verizon.net/72.64.124.215)
Frank set? It is photographed in a book, but I can't remember which one. I'll go look later.
The ash patch in the photo is a small, maybe 3x3 or even 4x4, section of burnt something or another next to some steps from Brian's house.
I wonder if that's where Brian's furniture, tapestries and the rest of his clothes were burnt?
Wow. Must have been some huge flame to have burnt that much stuff in so small an area of ashes!
I know Mary Hallet complained of seeing flames; she noted that during some interview.
But it was the sirens and flashing lights that first woke Les up the night Brian died.
Humm.

I wondered if there was any really good or decent pictures exist of the mourners around Brian's grave when he was buried. The one with all the family and Suki and Keylock etc. I have the black and white version, but it's not a great picture.
I know, you, Delightful, I mean Delilah are pretty hot on digging up these kind of things, and also Deb, the Gold Star Gal, is a bit of a wizard as well. So I wondered if you had anything in yer files or any ideas? I know there was that colour video on some programme on TV recently, which I'm hoping you captured, but I guess I'm keen to see any footage or stills of the funeral.
Hope one of my purdy pleases will not sound too pathetically insignificant for you not to take pity on me!!

Each time Gerry would make a dedication on this board to Brian, she would always call him Lewis Brian. Although I knew this must have been for a personal reason, I did still ask her exactly why she called him that, especially as he was never known by that name. (Well maybe at Dean Close private school.)
Unfortunately Gerry took umbrage at my question, but I was only curious if it had had something to do with when she met him at the place she worked. And I wanted to tell her why Lewis was always called Brian and never Lewis, but never did - shame really.

Now that LARS seems to be up and running smoothly: Is it not about time we honoured Gerry Seda properly on this board by getting a picture of her, preferably next to the picture of Brian?
I'm assuming someone has the technological skill to do this? And maybe Pammy could email Gerry's son Anthony and ask him for approval and a suitable piccie of his mother we could use?
Sorry if I'm being presumptuous but I think it's about time, especially with the Brimeister's 69th coming up in just a few short weeks. T'would be a good day to unveil a tribute to Gerry on Lewis Brian's birth date.

I hate to tell you Brian fans, but I feel I must. I've recently been informed that a mounted picture of Tom Keylock, with Brian, can be found at Keylock's grave site.
I don't suppose we can really feel surprised.
Whatever the gesture is supposed to mean, I would have thought those responsible might have given it a bit more thought. It seems at the very least wholly distasteful and inappropriate.

I fetched out a load of albums last week that I've not played in eons - some I've given multiple replays, but no 22 times Bob Dylan that's for sure!
For some reason, Illumina by alisha's attic is the one I've saved for last. I'm on the penultimate album now and it is the most beautiful uplifting album ever. I know Brian Poole's daughters (alisha's attic), can't match it. Not many albums could!!
I still recommend you listen to Illumina though. It's really quite beautiful! Another album I'm crazy about is by Sons and Daughter and I guess, appropriately (for this time of year), entitled, This Gift.
Anybody got any 'must listen to' music? Or 'must see' performers? I feel blessed that I managed to see Arthur Lee on his last tour of this country. I think his backing band was called Baby Lemonade, who were just awesome.

I had some early Stones recordings sent to me recently. I really didn't realise there was a Stones before they started cutting the discs everyone is familiar with, so this was quite an eye opener to say the least.
I've got to say that I was hugely impressed with the quality of covers the Stones produced. In my opinion much better, both musically and technically, than any of the original material by Jagger and Richards. I thought Mick's vocals were absolutely brilliant imitating the voices of the original artists. (Mick's mother did used to say that Mick was a great mimic.)
The recording on this CD I have of 'No Expectations' is absolutely awesome. The slide guitar is just on another level of excellence. I found it taking a grip of me and pulling me into the sound, as if I was a part of it, or a part of the whole celebration of the sound on this magnificent track. I don't know if that sounds strange (I'm not very good at explaining things), but I hope y'all have some idea of the spiritual experience I'm trying to explain.
I'm not actually sure of how many Stones tracks I have on these CD's, because many are duplicated or different versions of the same track, but I did notice that there is quite a lot of backing vocals. I just wondered if it has ever been catalogued just who took on the backing vocals for these early tracks? It seems at this point that Brian was still a driving force within the band, and was an up front, in yer face performer, so I'm assuming that he was very much involved in the backing vocals.
It's good to listen to these tracks, because there is a huge diversity in the genre of the music. Mick was into the soul sound, Keith was a Chuck Berry fan, Brian was able to appreciate most music, if not necessarily be knocked out by it. Of course they all liked blues to a greater or lesser degree, but it's interesting to see the evolution of what became the Stones sound from the ashes of these early recordings.
I'm sure all of you Brian fans will have heard this early stuff, and at least know of what I talk, if not of what I am talking about. I guess I'm just kind of knocked out by my discovery of this, the real Rolling Stones beginnings.
Or maybe, the truly real Rolling Stones?

Anyone heard the story that Bill, Brian and Charlie were all unhappy about Mick and Keith receiving the amount of Royalties they were getting, and they wanted it more evenly split. Bill talks about it in "Stone Alone". Perhaps Andrew Oldham and somebody else outvoted them.

From the latest issue of Goldmine Magazine, they have a monthly feature with different guest celebs, 'The 10 Albums that changed my life'. This month's guest celeb was actor/musician Bill Mumy and BB was one of his choices.
"I had dug all the Stones hits prior to this album, but there's something lurking just under the surface on Beggars Banquet that reached up out of the grooves and grabbed me hard. The acoustic Gibson Hummingbird guitars and the nasty electric slide parts, the roughness of it allcombined with incredible songwriting. The last gasps of greatness from Brian Jones...Also, one of the very first albums I smoked weed to. This album was a stepping stone to explore the delta blues."
Bill's other album choices in no order.
Beatles 'A Hard Day's Night'
Dylan 'Freewheelin''
Fleetwood Mac 'Then Play On'
Robert Johnson 'King of the Delta Blues Singers'
Byrds 'Greatest Hits'
Beach Boys 'Surf's Up'
Graham Nash 'Song For Beginners'
Buffalo Springfield 'Buffalo Springfield Again'
Kingston Trio 'Kingston Trio'

I had a look on the Brian board where the Maggie story broke, and I must admit there is some interesting stuff going on over there. However I was saddened to see some stuff posted about Brian's family.
Someone calling himself Craig decided it was cool to reveal where Barbara Jones, her children and her parents now live. I fail to see the relevance or the wisdom of making such a thing public. It is a very childish, ill thought out and immature way to act in my opinion.
Worse still, 'Craig' through his endeavours and ability to research the net has managed to collect pictures of Brian's kids. And though his proposed web site, to display his collection, is on hold, he seems willing to share information with anyone on where to find the pictures he talks of.
Is it me or is this bordering on some strange obsession, beyond normal fan adulation? It certainly has me thinking that I might hand in my Brian Jones tin star!! For I feel a guilt by association.
The worst part of this expose is the naming of an alleged sixth child called Barbara. Craig details her story in quite vivid fashion. If this child does exist (and it would seem so, as she is the one who put the blocks on his site), and is not a figment of his imagination, I would imagine she is feeling pretty fuching pissed to see all of this - especially after the very recent, traumatic experience of seeing her 90 minute old baby father suddenly spring out at her from a website.
Barbara's story is quite dramatic and not in my opinion for public consumption. How on earth, seemingly against her will, this guy got so much information on her I do not know, but it don't make me feel easy being a member of the Brian Jones community to see this kind of garbage.
I don't really see that it is any of our business to stick our noses into family business - be it that of Brian's children or of their estranged extended family. I don't see a problem of talking about anything generically, but to expose sensitive and private stuff on the net is just the pits.
'Craig' sent some flowers to Brian's grave last anniversary, so I believe he is truly as sympathetic as the next fan. I even saved the little card (that came with the flowers), in the diary box, so it would be preserved. I will, with some satisfaction, next time I'm around Cheltenham way, be removing the card (from the box), and putting a lighted match to it.

With what has been said and written about Brian over the years, by varying sources, it has become difficult to know what was fact and fiction. I don't doubt or dispute that he could be a self-centred arsehole, but then again, I would imagine so could, and so can today, various other rock stars.
