I just heard on the radio that Bo Diddley passed away. I hope he is out of whatever suffering he was in. I had the good Fortune of seeing him at Max's Kansas City in 1978. It only makes me want to rock harder. God rest his soul.

Hey,
It's good to be back, though for a while I didn't think it would happen. I had to get a new hard drive, cause my old one up and died on me. But it's possible keeping the computer on 24-7 didn't help, lol. I guess I should count my blessings it lasted as long as it did. Now I know, turn the computer OFF when you're not using it. Duh. I always had to learn things the hard way, lol. Respect.

I've never seen this one before. Does anyone have it? If so, do you recommend buying it? And most importantly: is it fair to Brian?
It's not very expensive so I'm tempted, but only if it is fair to Brian.

- Brian Jones picture on Ebay taken in the 70's! -- Kevin Randall, 19:56:26 06/05/08 Thu (cache-dtc-ae11.proxy.aol.com/205.188.117.15)
Here's a neat listing on ebay of a picture of Brian jones printed on Kodak paper(yes it's printed on Kodak Paper!) and the seller say's in the listing that it was taken in the 1970's!!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140232043897&_trksid=p2759.l1259
Now I sent a question to the seller and I asked: yes would you have any more picture of Brian Jones like this one that you have listed as being taking in the 1970's considering that history shows that Brian Jones died on july 2nd/3rd 1969?, Any pictures of Elvis taken in the 80's?.
I find it amazing how some sell pictures that they claim were taken years after the famous person's death-the picture for sale was actually taken in 1968-one time a person tried to sell a copy of Through the past darkly with Brian's autograph! as we all know brian died in july and through the past darkly didn't come out until sept 12th 1969!(LOL)

That baby would not be Julian as he would be too young then.

Hello all,
I have been lurking here for a long time and often came close to posting, but never did until the board crashed (paradoxically enough). I love the discussions that go on here. The people who post here are really knowledgeable and I learn from your posts on a daily basis. Thank you!
I became a Brian fan the very second I became a Stones fan. This was a few years after his death, since I was only a child when he died. I love the fact that he was a brilliant and uniquely original musician. I love his beautiful contributions to what I consider to be the golden era of the Rolling Stones. In my humble opinion, their music was never as good once he was gone.
Until I found this board, I thought I was the only person alive who still cared about Brian and who was still in awe of his extraordinary musical talents. So I would like to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to Gerry and Pam for providing this place for us to talk about someone who so deserves to be remembered.
I hope to be able to contribute in a meaningful fashion to the discussions, but I come here mostly to learn. The regulars here know a lot more than I do.

Some suggestions have been made that:
-we get a board that does not delete the archives (this seems to be a big concern)
-one that requires a legitimate email address, not a tossaway one
-password/private
-some response from tech support would be most welcome
Is there anything else you guys can think of or would like? Some feedback would really help Pam and I in making a determination of features we and you really feel are important. Just so you know, Voy does allow password protection but my main issue with them is the total lack of response to technical problems.
Please let us know..
thanks

- HELLO -- Martha L, 18:14:19 05/14/08 Wed (11-035.008.popsite.net/66.19.22.35)
Hello to Gerry and everyone here. I am glad the people here realize Brian wasn't such a monster and did a lot of good for
every bad thing he did. Posters who complain about obsessed girls gushing need to relax. This board is very enjoyable and
legendary among all the boards for Stones fans. Although Brian may be gone, he will never be forgotten, and time spent
elegantly on this board is never wasted.
Nico and other girl friends have their place in the big picture, but Brian was much more than the girls he knew and the trouble
He got into. But we can talk about them! Agendas of making Brian a poster boy for this or that will never get out of control with Gerry and her messageboard around.
LARS has been a treasure trove of balanced and reasonable reporting on Brian Jones, and I hope it stays this way, forever!
Love to everyone here!

You know, Gerry, with the reel to reel taped interview you have and your knowledge of long-defunct print sources from the 60s, you may have in your hands the makings of the ultimate Stones bio.
Are you familiar with the Beatles Off The Record by Keith Badman (Omnibus Press, 2000)? It was chronologically compiled from "recently recovered original interviews, transcripts and reports" most being "rescued from long lost newspapers, defunct magazines, audio tapes amd television and radio shows." What's more, 90 percent of the material is drawn from contemporary 1960s accounts, with 10 percent being reflections from later decades.
But what's great about this approach is the almost complete lack of a biographer's voice and analysis. Just a line or two of generic narration to explain the context of a given block of quotes is all we hear of Keith Badman; otherwise, the book--all 496 pages--is all straight from the horse's mouth of the principal players and their associates, with long-lost contemporary viewpoints that the mists of time would have obscured.
Take, for instance, Lennon's intense envy over the Stones not having to be cleaned up the way the Beatles were by Brian Epstein. When the Beatles first met the Stones in 1963 and were leaving Edith Grove, Lennon was heard to remark after leaving the flat: "They've stolen our image. They're like what we used to be before Brian [Epstein] ponced us up. I'm in the wrong band." (p. 56)
Contemporary Mersey Beat editor Bill Harry confirmed Lennon's resentment of the Stones: "John went bananas about all the publicity The Stones were getting for being rough. He knew The Stones were middle-class boys from the Home Counties, not leather-jacketed Teds at all. While The Beatles had been swearing and whoring it in Hamburg, they had been attending trendy schools. John hated it. He really hated it." (p. 62)
Four days after first meeting the Stones, we get John's initial impressions of Beatlemania at the apartment of journalist Chris Hutchins. Also present is Jane Asher. After Hutchins raises a toast, "To the Beatles," he provides an account of the dialogue that followed:
John: "Yeah, the group the fans love so much they want to tear us to pieces."
Jane (laughing): "Oh, John. You're such a cynic. Admit it, you adore the attention."
John: "Sure, I'm a cynic. What we play is rock-n-roll under a new name. Rock music is war, hostility and conquest. We sing about love, but we mean sex, and the fans know it."
Chris Hutchins: "The fans think you're decent, clean-living chaps."
John: "It's an image, and it's the wrong one. Look at the Rolling Stones. Rough as guts. We did that first and now they've pinched it."
Ringo: "You can't blame them for that."
Jane: "The fans have to dream that one day they might marry a Beatle."
John: "Yeah, but only those who haven't reached the age of puberty. I give some girl an autograph and she wants my tie and some hair. Then she wants to have sex. Then she tells me she's only 15. Jailbait. Is there any more booze?"
Chris (pouring the last of the wine into John's empty glass) "That's the last of it. I wasn't expecting company."
John: "OK, there's no booze. Let's talk about sex. Jane, how do girls play with themselves?"
Jane (shocked but cool): "I'm not going to talk about that!"
John: "You're the only girl here and I want to know. How do you jerk off?"
Chris: "There's only one jerk here."
John: "Oh fab! No booze, no birds, insults from the host...what kind of rave is this? Bleedin' marvellous. I'm going in search of some crumpet. Call me a taxi."
Jane (who was now crying, being comforted by George): "You know, John, you can be very cruel sometimes."
John (who was now standing at the front door, before leaving to find his own taxi): "It's the beast in me."
Jane leaves the party accompanied by George...(pp. 56-57)
So, you see, all these lost contemporary accounts put things in a wider context and without the muddling third-person voice of the biographer. It's time a book like that was published on the Stones.
The ultimate Stones bio, rather than being written, needs only to be compiled.
