Brians attacks (Ive never been comfortable calling them seizures) were very quiet. He would be fine, then just topple over like a lawn ornament. The first one I witnessed was the scariest, and just before that one he was agitated, but it really was just like he was having a tantrum. He was pissed off. There was no lack of recognition or anything that indicated he was out of it, then he fell over onto the floor. The reason it scared me is because Id never seen that happen before. He knew this happened to him, we talked about it, but he was scared to go to a doctor and find out, because he thought it could ruin his career. Brian could be very stubborn, and when confronted with that kind of stubborness, I tend to give in. Its easier than it turning into world war 5 in my opinion. I generally only pick battles I think I can win.
I currently am friends with a young man who had a head injury playing sports as a kid. He gets seizures, the real kind, but only when hes overtired or drinks too much caffeine. Hes had two while driving with me in the passenger seat. Very terrifying, but he wont tell anyone because hes afraid he will lose his drivers license. Personally I think he should, but its not my battle. Ive learned how to pull the car over. And he stays away from caffeine so the seizures are extremely rare. His father has a brain tumor and is starting to go blind but he wont stop driving either. Brians attacks seem to have been caused by stress, but Im not sure. He didnt thrash or do anything. He just fell over like in a coma. His breathing would slow and he would lie there for hours, then come out of it and apologise.
I know Brian was alone at the pool longer than was reported, but Im sorry that I cannot say how it is I know.
