- Stones Show in Newark, New Jersey -- Bernie, 10:18:31 12/16/12 Sun (cpe-68-174-181-230.nyc.res.rr.com/68.174.181.230)
A friend of mine went to see the boys in Newark last night, he paid $900 for his ticket, He said it was wonderful, The sound was great, They projected wonderful Films of themselves in all Eras from the Beginning, Brian was prominently shown. They did all sorts of songs, like "Come On", "Dead Flowers", and most of their trademark hits..At the end, everybody left the stage except for Mick, Keith, Ron,and Charlie and (I Guess)Daryl Jones and Mick Taylor came out and played "Midnight Rambler" With them, They played it for 9 minutes. So All in all, I really think a lot of fears about them being ungrateful or disrespecting Brian are unfounded. And they are being very kind to MT as well.My friend said the crowd went nuts over them. This is all I know, so I hope you are enjoying the season and I look forward to hearing from you. Peace and Love,b-

I had just posted a message to Linda about Roxanne, Beatlefest, and Brian, when I decided to go to Yahoo to check my mail. I found a e-mail from the Rolling Stones that said they actually are going to play the Barclays center in my hometown Brooklyn, on December 8, The Day John Lennon died. Shortly after I saw them for the first time in 1972,I had a dream they were actually playing Downtown Brooklyn in the Exact same spot where this new venue is. This is the strangest coincidence or "Synchronicity"as some might call it or perhaps To use a more colorful term, "Cosmic"So it will be a "Cosmic Christmas" for me. i cant afford tickets, but id love to get dressed up and hang out there or just pass by when it happens,im sure there will be a lot of action there.I have chills all over!! My buddy posted this to Keno's board yesterday. I thought I'd heard pretty much all the Stones outtakes, but this is a new one to me. It sounds like it could be from the Chess sessions, or maybe the BBC. So why isn't it on either of these bootlegs? God only knows!
I think it's a fabulous cover! Is Brian playing the harmonica or is it Mick? What do you think?

Hi everyone,
I just happened upon your message board for the first time today. I've just spent (um, far too long) reading through all the messages and looking at the fab pictures (photos and drawings) It's really nice to find a board dedicated to Brian. He often seems to end up as the overlooked Stone, or else all anyone has to say about him is about how he died and the conspiracy theories surrounding that. (I think if you do a google search just about the first 3 pages are only results about how poor old Brian died).
Anyway, the real reason for my post is... a short while ago I was searching for pictures of Brian Jones with George Harrison (of the Beatles, of course) for a project but I could only find a measly two or three. I was wondering if anyone on here had any? I know they were friends and I've heard stories about Brian going round to George's house and things but I can't find hardly any pics!
Thanks for your help!
Lindsey x

I am even new at this kind of forum. I have been walking around thinking I was the only one on earth who thought of Brian. With the Stones acting like their founder never existed how could any one remember him.Sorry Mick but without Brian you would be some unknown Gym teacher. There are many in my life good and bad that has formed my personallity. I give each credit. I was also shocked that they (the stones) also had the nerve to go on this sight and ask for support from BRIANS fans. I feel they are somewhat to blame for Brians death by not trying harder to support and be there for him.I see it this way because a am always driven to tourchered souls to support .try to heal and give the love needed.

Years ago, James Phelge (who goes down is Stones history as the notorious 4th tenant of a dump at 208 Edith Grove which Brian, Keith and Mick lived in before they became famous) had a website called Phelgeworld. The site disappeared for a few years and is now just back up. It is still under construction, but have a look anyway.

Anyone who has read his Nankering With the Rolling Stones is familiar with Phelge's sense of humour and storytelling skills. No doubt his site will be a great place!

Keno linked to this on his board, and I thought it would be of interest to people here as well:
'Charlie Is My Darling' New York Film Festival premiere, DVD, Blu-ray, box set
The Rolling Stones documentary movie "Charlie Is My Darling - Ireland 1965" is now getting a major release on ABKCO, with a world premiere at the New York Film Festival, a TV premiere, plus releases on DVD, Blu-ray and as a super deluxe box set.
First, the movie will have its world premiere at the New York Film Festival on September 29, 2012, at 7 p.m Eastern Time. An encore screening will take place on October 3, 2012, at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Both screenings will be at the Walter Reade Theatre in New York City. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 12 p.m. Eastern Time on September 9, 2012.
It has not been confirmed if the Rolling Stones will attend the premiere.
The movie's TV premiere will be on a network, date and time to be announced, but it should be in the autumn of 2012.
On November 6, 2012, ABKCO will release the movie in these three formats:
DVD
Blu-ray
Super deluxe box set that will include a DVD, Blu-ray, 2 CDs and a vinyl LP. The track listing for the CDs and LP are to be announced.
Here is how ABKCO describes the movie in a press release:
“"Shot on a quick tour of Ireland just weeks after the Rolling Stones’ “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” hit # 1 on the charts and became the international anthem for a generation, The Rolling Stones Charlie is my Darling - Ireland 1965 is an intimate, behind-the-scenes diary of life on the road with the young Stones. It features the first professionally filmed concert performances of the band and documents the early frenzy of their fans and the riots the band’s appearances inspired.
"Charlie is my Darling is a rediscovered letter from a lost world. It has long been a holy grail of rock fans, surfacing in bits and pieces and tantalizing but frustratingly un-synched fragments. The band is shown traveling through the Irish countryside by train; dashing from cabs to cramped, basement dressing rooms through screaming hordes of fans. Motel rooms host impromptu songwriting sessions and familiar classics are heard in their infancy as riff and lyric are united.
"This new 2012 version of the film with added never-before-seen footage was directed and restored by director Mick Gochanour and producer Robin Klein, the GRAMMY® Award winning team that brought the classic The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus to the screen. Charlie is my Darling’s dramatic and stunning concert footage – including electrifying performances of “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” “The Last Time” and “Time Is On My Side” – shows the band developing its musical style by blending blues, R&B and rock-n-roll riffs, and captures the spark about to combust into The Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World. Candid, off-the-cuff interviews are juxtaposed with revealing, comical scenes of the band goofing on one another as well as unsuspecting outsiders, and offers an unmatched look inside the day-to-day life of the Stones.
"Originally directed by pioneering filmmaker Peter Whitehead and produced by Rolling Stones manager and producer Andrew Loog Oldham, Charlie is my Darling is the lost preamble to a life captured on screen. Like no other band, the Rolling Stones repeatedly put themselves under the microscope, allowing the greatest filmmakers of our era – including Jean-Luc Godard, the Maysles, Robert Frank, Michael Lindsay-Hogg, Hal Ashby and Martin Scorsese – inside their world. Charlie is my Darling is the invaluable frame: the unseen story of the band becoming the legend."
The autumn of 2012 is a busy season for Rolling Stones documentaries, since the official Rolling Stones 50th anniversary documentary (directed by Brett Morgen) will be released by Eagle Rock Entertainment. The movie's title and release date are to be announced. The 50th anniversary documentary will be in cinemas for a limited time, and then released on DVD and Blu-ray, followed by a U.S.premiere on HBO. The dates for the DVD/Blu-ray release and TV premiere are also to be announced.
Despite the fact that the press release says that the tracks for the CDs and vinyl have to be announced, Keno had this listing. I'm not sure where he got it, but here it is:

I beleive that this sight is likely become much more animated, than it hs been recently. As with any activity, in the band , it seems to have the "Rabit Hole Affect" on forward thinking people, whom are Brian fans, and future Brian fans, in the making. Many younger people who have become disilunged, with the "Music Scennes" Lathargic, Lackluster, state of beeing will be tempted by recent activity in touring schedules, to seek out knowlege of the bands history, and "Who is that Dude" on the covers of the Rolling Stones clasic records is and where is he now?
That search will eventually lead then here, for answers into why the records just don't seem the have the magic touch without Brian, and answers as to why he died?

I once read a story where Brian did something Hysterically funny..One time when the Stones Were in New York, The number one record was "Have I the Right" By the Honeycombs (A funny record in itself) and It was keeping the Stones out of the #1 spot so Brian called up the Radio Station and convinced the DJ To speed Have I the Right up to 78 rpm..Brian was in stitches over this, and the next Week The Stones were #1.I never hear that song on the radio anymore but I laughed every time I heard it and Thought of That.I just figured youd get a laugh. Maybe If this poor thing wasnt so hidden, many more people would contribute, it once was the most popular site on the internet, More than a million hits in a year. I hope to see more of Brian in the near future as that Documentary is supposed to come out in September. Love and peace, your good Friend, Bernie

Hi All:
I check every day for a new post. SEEMS LATELY, things have been quiet around this forum... I just wonder if I am the only guy left who still thinks about Brian. It's through us that his spirit lives on. Once we die Brian dies as well. Just ask his own former band members!! Hah. So I thought I would raise a toast to our Brian (lifting a glass).
To Brian: The founder of the Rolling Stones. If it was not for your vision and belief, the Rolling Stones would've never been born. It was your vision that steered the way back when you all gathered to practice, practice, practice with no gigs to be found. That's all the the original Stones ever did... according to Keith and Stu. Mick was there but he never talks about the Stones pre-1969. Just happens to be the same year Brian was forced out of the band. Coincidence? "Doh!!", said Mick. But even back then, when there was no gigs to be found, Brian KNEW they would become famous and bigger then just about any band had ever come before. All fans of the Stones owe this much gratitude to Brian for believing when nobody else did, including Mick and Keith. They, should be first in line.
Anyway, thanks for being a true leader for all bands, musicians, artist's, women (no particular order here ladies!!), and an entire generation. Your kind will never be seen again!!
I hope this message finds you in happiness. It's because of you that I write this now. I may never get a chance to visit your grave, but, I would definitely mention this Forum to you (if I ever had a chance to see your home town).
Hopefully, somebody will respond to this message. Brian deserves much, much more.
George
Take care!!

Rolling Stones Were Not Ready For Olympics Performance
July 12, 2012 | 8:51pm EST
The Rolling Stones turned down the opportunity to perform at the London Olympics this summer because they were not “stage ready”.
The rockers gathered at London’s Marquee Club on Wednesday to mark the 50th anniversary of their first gig, and Mick Jagger revealed he and his bandmates had been asked to perform at the opening ceremony of the Olympics later this month, but they turned organisers down – because they hadn’t had enough time to rehearse.
He tells ITN, “I didn’t think, to be honest, we were quite stage ready. We haven’t played in a long time… and it’s a very big gig and it’s very risk-taking. I didn’t think the band themselves felt they were really ready to do it at this point.”
But Jagger hopes to perform with his bandmates once again this year and the group is discussing the logistics of possible concerts.
He adds, “We hope we’re going to do some gigs this year. We haven’t actually finalised them, but we hope we’re going to do some gigs. We’ve done rehearsing, hanging out together and all that discussing so, you know, we’ve been seeing each other quite a lot.”

With all to do with Brian lately, I went to facebook and found 2 photos I took With my Computer With Me In A Blond Wig I bought for Halloween, To look Like Brian. I just reposted them, as well as updating my my space page to include some of my best rock and roll recordings. I have decided to stop dyeing my hair black and let it grow in its natural white and gray, within about a year and a half,I should naturally look like Brian at 59 or 60, depending on how long it takes. Every day I pick up a guitar, Think of Brian and start writing new songs..I am much better now, all because of the Love that comes my way, Including here. Im not really concerned with commercial music, or management and Record contracts, they just get in the way of your freedom, and only work out to their advantage, not yours, ive been heavily into Brian for 39 years now, Know every single one of his recordings, and agree with Brians view of Christianity..So I welcome old age and most likely will be a free spirit like Brian when I eventually die, which I also wish for all of you and Gerry as well. Love and Peace, Joujouka, Bernard

It will be 43 years ago tomorrow that Brian left us. 43 years!!! That is more than a lifetime for some people here, yet we are still celebrating Brian's life and work. If only the Stones would do the same!
Don't forget to play your favourite Brian songs today, tomorrow and all week! And here's a bootleg for download. This is one of the very few soundboard concerts with Brian that we still have today. It's ironic to think that the Stones played more concerts with Brian than they have in all the years since he's been gone, yet we only have a couple of soundboards remaining from those days. This one may be the best of the crop.
Link to download Hawaii 1966
You'll need Winrar to extract the files. If you don't already have it, google "winrar download" to get it, and enjoy the music :)

On this day 43 years ago Brian Jones had just about 9 days to live, but was unaware of it. It seems odd that everyone has stopped discussing him here on the board for the past week...at just about the same time he'd had a visit from Mick, Keith and Charley 43 years ago, informing him they'd "had enough of him". I also found out that few if any people visited his grave on what would have been his 70th birthday. This is a very sad thing, since it's been a place of pilgrimage since his death, and few years passed without someone coming to pay their respects to the fallen rock star. With all the hooplah about the 50th anniversary tour of his beloved band, it's especially eerie that his die-hard fans have become more silent than ever.
Have the Glimmers finally achieved their goal of fully erasing their mentor from history? He's never even mentioned anymore when the band is discussed, and all old pictures of the Stones shown anywhere have him cropped out of the image...just 4 Stones are in them.
Even his fan club, so active just a few years ago, seems to have disbanded now that the police refused to reopen that poorly investigated case. It's president has moved back to his childhood home to care for a pair of ailing parents. I've heard nothing of any of the usual reunions at the cemetery this year, but maybe I'm wrong about that. I understand Pat Andrews hasn't been well of late, and many of that event's organizers have passed on in the last year or two.
This all seems to coordinate with the expiration of Gerry Seda's web page, which I understand was one of the most popular Brian Jones sites in cyberspace. I'm hoping something will happen that sparks some renewed interest in Brian for the general public, but until then, I'm glad at least the few of us left here still remember the most underated musician in rock history. Just saying.

- Brian playing Guitar -- George (New Topic!!), 17:01:48 05/29/12 Tue (pool-173-53-25-76.rcmdva.fios.verizon.net/173.53.25.76)
Hope everyone had a nice Memorial Day Weekend. Thought it was time for a new topic... regarding our Brian. I thought I would bring up which Brian Guitar song do you all like the best and how so?
Think of it as a poll but I would like to see feedback as to why that song (Guitar) makes Brian so popular. I will start off by saying "Dust My Broom" kicks ass and it's too bad Brian playing Slide Guitar on that one is not on tape (as far as I know). So my choice is "Little Red Rooster". Brian's Guitar makes the whole song. Dominates. It's as if the other Stones KNOW this as well. Including Mick, although Mick is quite good in this song. No doubt Brian "shines" on Guitar and naturally the song went to number 1 in Great Britain (late 1964). Brian's dream of bringing the Blues to the masses came true.
Other songs I gave consideration to were "Off Of My Cloud", "I Wanna Be Your Man" and "Jigsaw Puzzle".
Many great songs to choose from!! Brian always did make the Guitar playing look so easy. A brilliant player and largely forgotten. As Charlie says to Keith (True Adventures of the Rolling Stones by Stanley Booth) while listening to "I Wanna Be Your Man" 'Brian could do that in his sleep'!!
George

Hi,
I used to be a member of this board back in the late 90s but then the crappy computer I had at the time died on me. RIP. By the time I got a new one, which took a while, I'd lost track of you. But it's good to finally be back!

- MIck Taylor article in NY Daily News -- Lazlo, 12:55:22 05/04/12 Fri (adsl-76-248-145-39.dsl.wlfrct.sbcglobal.net/76.248.145.39)
Saw this in the paper yesterday, thought I'd share it here.
Mick Taylor: The best musician ever to play with the Rolling Stones returns
Mick Taylor knows that serious Stones fans consider him to be the best lead guitarist the band ever had. Certainly, he’s the most fluid, melodic and expansive. But when asked about it, he pooh-poohs the notion.
“Well, they only had three [leads] — Brian Jones, Ron Wood and me,” he says. “And I think Ron is very underrated. Maybe they didn’t write the kinds of songs that leave space for a guitar solo after [Wood] joined. At the time, they used to write some songs that needed a solo just because I was there and I can play.”
That’s an understatement.
For proof, listen to Taylor’s driving and fleet runs in songs like “Sway” and “Can’t You Hear Me Knockin’,” or his contributions throughout the 1970 live disc “Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out.” His fierce and spiraling solo in “Sympathy for the Devil” could still send aspiring guitar heroes reeling in awe. For all the skills he showed with the Faces, Wood’s work with the Stones mainly finds him playing second rhythm with Keith Richards, mirroring him rather than goading him.
Many fans also consider Taylor’s era with the band — 1969 to 1974 — to be their creative peak. While Taylor hasn’t had a decent media profile since, he has continued to hone his six-string skills in a dizzying array of projects, including an ongoing band with Jack Bruce, touring gigs with Bob Dylan or his original band leader (John Mayall), and on solo albums like his celebrated 2000 disc, “A Stone’s Throw.”
Still, it’s been years since Taylor played an extended gig with his own band in New York. (He thinks the last time may date back to the final days of the defunct Bottom Line). That makes it especially sweet that Taylor will front his latest group (which includes members of one of Jeff Beck’s ’70s bands) at 12 shows at the intimate club Iridium. He’ll also play a gig there with the house band, who backed the late Les Paul.
Taylor will perform songs that touch on all of his influences, from blues-rock to Latin-jazz, with plenty of room left for “melodic instrumentals.”
Like Jeff Beck, Taylor’s skittish and broad resume has robbed him of a more lucrative career. “I’m a reluctant band leader,” he says. “I just like to stand there and play guitar. Sometimes I like to have fun and sing and dance around, but Mick Jagger is much better at that kind of thing.”
Not only does Taylor say he retains a warm relationship with Jagger and Richards, he downplays the friction that led him to quit the world’s greatest rock ’n’ roll band to begin with
“There was a bit of tension but not the sort of thing you would fight about,” he says. “The reasons I left were not about the music or the inner workings of the band but about being famous and doing that much work when you’re young and when you have a young family. Nobody had a stable home.”
Likewise, Taylor smooths over the oft-reported notion that he quit in frustration over not getting writing credits on songs he felt he helped shape, like “Time Waits for No One” and “Moonlight Mile.”
“It was a little bit of a bone of contention at the time,” he allows. “But I don’t think I’m as bitter about it as Bill Wyman. I can’t believe Bill is really bitter after all these years. Come on!”
Taylor does say some recordings involved more time and toil than they should have, due to Richards’ avowed drug problems, though he adds: “We didn’t think of them as problems in those days. We saw them as recreation.”
He calls Keith brave for writing candidly about it in his book, though he says he didn’t recognize the descriptions of himself in the tome. “I was never morose,” he says. “He is just as morose as me. I am shy.”
Since his departure, Taylor has worked with the band periodically, adding bits to “Tattoo You” in 1981 and even recording overdubs for last year’s re-release of “Exile on Main Street,” which includes his sole songwriting credit (“Ventilator Blues”). But he remains cagey about rumors he’ll rejoin the Stones on a proposed 50th anniversary tour next year. “I don’t know,” is all he’ll say.
In the meantime, Taylor just collaborated with Ron Wood on a song for “CSI: Miami.” And he plans to continue the rambling life of the journeyman musician he’s enjoyed for over three decades. It’s a role that allows him to indulge his truest love: the blues. “It all comes back to the blues,” he says. “Ultimately, that’s where we all go for nourishment and for warmth.”

Check out this list of Gibson Firebird players! Scroll down to the bottom for a pleasant surprise. He may not have made the top of the list, but for once, our Brian was not forgotten. I gotta say that finding this made my Sunday morning.
And check out also the company he keeps on that list! I confess that Phil Manzanera's name is unknown to me and I am not really familiar with Warren Haynes' work, but the other five names on that list are pretty damn impressive! And there's our Brian, right there with them :)
